Shelter is one of the fundamental human needs. The tremendous pace of urbanisation and population growth has created shortage of planned housing communities in most of the underdeveloped countries. Tanzania is a developing country, which has placed priorities in reducing the gap between rich and poor. Its social programmes and development strategies are innovative and geared to provide maximum social benefits to the majority of the people. Tanzania has tried a variety of housing programs but the test of time to see how they are working. This essay recommends a number of housing policies an strategies in providing a greater number of people with accommodation. The main goal is to provide services and facilities so as to improve the physical environment and encourage home-ownership so that people not only improve their own environment but as users are responsible in the management an decision making of their affairs.TRANSCRIPT
