Carol’s Corner I love summertime with the availabil- ity of fresh fruits and vegetables, don’t you? HOWEVER, this summer has been unusually HOT, or is it my imagination? I remember being a kid and our family had two window fans, no air conditioning, and we adjusted. Now, I prefer to view summertime from the inside where the air condi- tioning is! Fall is just around the cor- ner and this year I am actually look- ing forward to getting out my winter clothes…and my quilting projects! I must admit, the only thing I have sewn this summer is Mikayla’s bap- tism gown (completed at midnight the day before the baptism!). And I am excited to invite all of you to come check out the new fabrics that have arrived in the past couple of weeks and register for some of the many classes on the schedule this quarter. And for the young sewers out there, it is time to sign up for the school year sewing school! Remember, class sizes are limited and they fill quickly. You will also see that there have been some new interesting classes added to our roster. Carrie and the education staff have worked together to really jump start things for you this fall. Libby Lehman will be our national educator this quarter and she will be teaching Radiant Circles. We will also host an embroidery event, Em- broidery S.O.S, as well as OESD’s ever-popular Christmas Embroidery Collections Promotion. This one is different from others from past years and we think you will really like it. Loving Stitches will host its first ever NOTION SALE. We’ll give you an opportunity to save money on your next machine maintenance by attending one of the many scheduled Clean and Sew Events on the calendar and, as always, Bernina will be offering you many op- portunities to own a Bernina machine! And if that isn’t enough reason to come by, let me tell you about the amazing new “3” Series! Talk about entry-level machines that look top of the line… these machines are incredible! Plus, if you have (or would like to have) an Ac- tiva machine, “skins” are now available for this line! You MUST see the one we have on display with Mikayla on the front! “Adorable” sums it up! Plus, we have a new cousin in the Artista “6”series now, the 635LE which comes with its own “skin” and matching trans- port bag…too cute for words. It’s been a long summer…come by soon to chat for a while. We miss seeing you. Hugs to all of you, Carol The OESD Christmas Collections Are Now Available for 2010 From September till November, you can receive a free Holiday De- sign Collection when you purchase OESD products. Sewing School for Young Sewers Now Open for Registrations

As in previous years, we are happy to again offer our school-year sewing school for young sewers ages 8 thru tweens and teens. This year, however, we will be doing things just a little differently so we can offer advanced projects for our students who have sewn with us for some time. What will remain the same? Class sizes will still be limited to allow us to spend plenty of one-on-one time with each student. Pricing will remain $10 per class plus supplies, which we will again try to kit to keep costs reasonable. Parents may still

authorize a “suspended ticket” with a charge limit for the children so small needs may be addressed promptly and payment made later, i.e. a new spool of thread, etc. What will the changes be? Payment for each month will be due the first day of class each month, after which a late fee will be charged. Educators will be Loving Stitches staff members who work excellently with chil-dren and have taught all of our summer camps. Amanda, Andrea, Brittany and one new Educator, Robin have been working to plan and prepare for the school-year program and I think you will all be pleased with their plans…I certainly am! Of course, we will continue to offer a beginners class for those just entering the program. That class will make a variety of simple but cute projects using the book The New Handmade and other patterns developed by our staff. Then we want to do what our returning students have been asking for…clothing construction. They will start with clothing for 18” dolls, which is a perfect 1st step into clothing construction. (I must admit that the staff is having just a little too much fun outfitting our American Girl dolls but I can’t talk because I still love dressing up those dolls, too!) Then they will make look-alike outfits for themselves! Finally, we will be having one craft sewing class for those girls who love to do sewing related crafts. I’d like to be in all three classes! And I am not alone…Brittany has so many adults interested in her class, she’s actually offering it for adults as well! Summer camp students get first option to register but open registration begins September 6th. When the scheduled classes are filled, there is no additional room on our schedule to add classes for this program. Accordingly, immediate registration is a MUST! Call us if you have additional questions.

Libby Lehman Comes to Loving Stitches To Teach Radiant Circles September 17, 2010

LIBBY LEHMAN began making quilts 38 years ago when her mother, Catherine Anthony, signed them up for a basic class. Over the years she has evolved from a traditional handworker to one of the leaders in innovative machine stitching. Her studio art quilts have won many awards and appear in private, corpo-rate, and museum collections, including VISA International, Fairfield Processing Corporation and Cogen Technologies. The author of Threadplay with Libby Lehman (That Patchwork Place, 1997) Libby’s quilts have ap-peared in many books and international publications. Her quilt Joy Ride was chosen as one of the Best 100 American Quilts of the 20th Century. In addition to making quilts, most of her time is spent teaching, judging & lecturing in the US as well as internationally (Japan, Australia, the UK, Germany, Spain, New Zealand, and Switzerland). Don’t miss this opportunity to study at the hand of a master quilter when Libby visits Loving Stitches on Friday, September 17. This all day event promises to be an experience you will savor. At the time of this printing, the class is almost completely filled so call right away if you are hoping to share the day with us. Bring a brown bag lunch and a healthy creative appetite. Guaranteed you will have the time of your life! Cost is $75.

Support the Susan G. Komen Foundation and SEW PINK in October!

Susan G. Komen for the Cure® promises to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing sci-ence to find cures.

Once again we want to raise awareness in our community about breast cancer and the research Bernina and Loving Stitches supports all year but particularly during October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, each year. We will be having awareness events and “Sew Pink” projects throughout the month to include a Sew Pink journal cover and matching corner page marker, adorned with a Sew Pink logo patch on the cover that you are sure to love. SEW…no pun intended…plan to come by and test drive a Bernina, experience Swiss quality and LOOK FOR SPE-CIAL PRICING on select machines during October and support breast cancer research when you do. As a token of our appreciation for trying a Bernina, we invite you to embroider a special Bernina Sew Pink support patch as part of your test drive. A portion of all profits from machine sales this month at Loving Stitches will be donated to the cause. Additionally, Bernina of America will be donating $25,000 to support this event. Beginning October 1, we will be accepting donations for the cause and everyone who donates will be given a pink fat quarter. And if the donation is for at least $5.00, your name will be entered into a drawing to be held on Saturday, October 30, for a basket of PINK PRODUCTS! We are still collecting products for the basket so we cannot quote a value yet. But can we put a value on finding a cure for this cancer that runs rampant amongst women and can also attack men? That would be priceless, wouldn’t it? Be sure to check our website also for other special events we will be hosting to educate our commu-nity and support our local breast cancer organization.

chines that have set-it-and-forget-it style embroidery. While saving money is often the catalyst to get them started, it’s the creative satisfaction that keeps them coming back.
