The language most frequently used is English, but interventions during the plenary sessions can be made in any of the six UN languages.

Interpretation facilities for the six UN languages will be provided during the plenary sessions only. No other meetings will receive interpretation services from the UN. Press Conference Room has interpretation booths for two any languages, but delegations need to bring their own interpreters.

RouteAll foreigners wishing to enter Indonesia must have a passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival along with proof (ticket) of onward or return passage. Please contact the Indonesian Embassy/Consulate in your country well before the Conference in order to check if you require any immigration documents necessary to visit Indonesia.

Free Tourist Visa:

Non-extendable visa-free entry to Indonesia for 30 days is available to passport holders of Brunei, Chile, Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, Malaysia, Morocco, Peru, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Visa on Arrival:

Passport holders of 52 nationalities are entitled to 7 days and 30 days of non-extendable tourist visas upon payment of USD 10 and USD 25 respectively, upon arrival at major airports in Indonesia. These are Australia, Austria, Argentina, Bahrain, Brazil, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Egypt, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Laos PDR, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg, Malta, Maldives, Mexico, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, Netherlands, Oman, People's Republic of China, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, South Africa, South Korea, Suriname, Switzerland, Sweden, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States of America.

Regular Passport Holder:

Regular passport holders of all other countries and non-tourists of the aforementioned countries are required to apply Indonesian visas at Indonesian Embassies or Consulates in their home or neighboring countries prior to the departure to Indonesia. The Conference Secretariat will issue an invitation letter upon request. The sole purpose of this letter is to facilitate the participant's travel visa arrangements and does not imply the provision of any financial or other support by the Conference Secretariat.

Diplomatic & Service Passport Holder:

Diplomatic & Service passport holders of foreign nationals may obtain Visa on Arrival by sending written information to the UNFCCC Secretariat and Indonesia Conference Secretariat prior to departure to Indonesia by submitting name and detail of the passport to support the application.

BALI

Bali is located just off the eastern tip of Java, from which it is separated by the Bali Strait. On its north and south side, the island is flanked by the Java Sea and the Indian Ocean, respectively. The island occupies an area of approximately 6,000 square kilometers and lies on a latitude of 8° south of the equator, having population of around 3.5 million. Bali is one of Indonesia’s provinces, with Denpasar as provincial capital.

Endowed with great natural beauty and rich culture has made Bali globally known as an island of paradise. Bali's spectacular beaches, volcanoes, lakes, temples, and terraced rice fields -- combined with its deeply artistic roots and its legendary hospitality -- have made it one of the most visited places on earth. The religion and culture of Bali are unique in the world, and the Balinese have preserved their traditions in spite of the island's growing tourist industry. Bali International Airport, Ngurah Rai, is the nation's eastern gateway, served by numerous international airlines and charter flights.

INDONESIA

The UN Climate Change Conference 2007 will be held at Bali International Convention Centre (BICC). BICC is situated in the self-contained resort area of Nusa Dua, which is just 10 km from the Ngurah Rai International Airport. It is also connected through an air-conditioned shopping arcade with The Westin Resort (the main venue hotel) and surrounded by some of Bali's finest five-star hotels and resorts (Ayodya Resort, Inna Putri Bali, Grand Hyatt, Melia Bali, The Laguna Resort & Spa, and Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa), and within walking distance of fantastic shopping, entertainment, restaurants, a championship golf course and a host of other recreational facilities.

The Convention Centre features a main hall which seats 2,500 and an auditorium seating 506. Eight additional function rooms, four of which divide, provide meeting space of totally 3,490 square meters. Some of the Centre's outstanding capabilities include a fully integrated satellite, telecommunications and media systems, professional in-house staging, simultaneous multi-language translation and state-of-the art audio visual and presentation facilities.

Exhibition Halls of the Convention Centre boasts of total of almost 5,000 square meters of exhibition space with excellent vehicle access. There are two interiors areas of 1,350 square meters each and 2,000 square meters of outdoor exhibition space. An exclusive bonded warehouse or bond store expedites transport, customs clearance and security of all exhibition/convention commodities.

Air transport is the easiest and comfortable means of travel to Indonesia. A number of carriers offer international direct flight to Bali and many of the world's major carriers connect Bali via regional air hubs in Jakarta, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Seoul, Sydney, Guam and Taipei.

Many domestic airlines flying to Bali frequently on daily basis include Garuda Indonesia (the most frequent one), Lion Air, Batavia Air, Adam Air, Merpati Nusantara, Mandala Airlines, and many more.

International airlines representatives available in Bali are Air New Zealand, Cathay Pacific Airlines, China Airlines, Continental Micronesia, Eva Air, Garuda Indonesia,

Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Merpati Nusantara, Qantas Airways, Royal Brunei, Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways International. Most of these airlines offices are located in Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport and Denpasar.

An airport tax of 100,000 Rupiah (equiv. USD 11) is imposed for travellers on international routes and 30,000 Rupiah for those on domestic routes. Airport tax is payable after check-in at airport.

Transportation in Bali is always cheap by any standard. The taxis start with flag fall of 5,000 Rupiah or around USD 50 cents, followed by 4,000 Rupiah/kilometer. From airport to the conference venue in Nusa Dua, it will cost at around 70,000 Rupiah (equiv. USD 8); whereas from Nusa Dua area to Kuta or Legian area will cost at around 80,000 Rupiah. It is advisable to carry small change as taxi drivers are often short of change.

Taxis are operated from all major hotels and the airport with rate varying according to the destination. Some of airport taxis Golden Bird, Ngurah Rai Taxi, Kowinu, etc. At all major airport terminals, inquiries about local transportation should be directed to the information counter. Furthermore, car and motorcycle rentals are also available in Bali at negotiable rates.

Cost of living in Bali is reasonable. For three times of daily meals (incl. food and drink) at local restaurants will cost at around USD 15 to USD 20 per person. Food and drink at better hotels cost about the same as in the same category of hotel anywhere else in the world. Breakfast is USD 8 to USD 30, lunch and dinner USD 20 to USD 70 or more per person – and that does not include any wine which can be very expensive. On the other hand, restaurants outside the large hotels are often 60% to 80% cheaper.

Customs allow on entry at maximum of one liter of alcoholic beverages, 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars 100 grams of tobacco and a reasonable amount of perfume per adult. Cameras, video cameras, portable radios, cassette recorders, binoculars and sport equipment are admitted provided they are taken out on departure. They must be declared to Customs.

Prohibited are firearms, narcotic drugs, pornography, transreceivers and cordless telephones. Films, pre-recorded video tapes and laser disks must be screened by the Censor Board.

While there is no restriction on the amount of foreign currency that may be brought into Indonesia, those who bring into the country currency worth more than 100 million Rupiah must be declared to customs upon arrival at the first port of entry.

o Bali enjoys warm, tropical weather all year. Temperatures average is between 21 to o o o o33 C (68 to 93 F) year round. In the mountains, however, it can go as low as 5 C at

night. Humidity varies between 60% and 100%. In general, Bali experiences two seasons: moist and wet. The dry season is normally from May to October, whereas the rainy season is normally from November to April, during which it can rain for several hours each day. The rain tends to be intermittent, however, with plenty of sun in between. There is comparatively little difference between the daytime and night time temperatures. All conference sessions will be held in air-conditioned venues.

Bali is in the Central Indonesian Time zone, which is GMT+8 hours.

Bahasa Indonesia is the national language, but English is widely spoken and understood.

The Indonesian currency is Rupiah (IDR). The currency exchange is approximately USD 1 = IDR 9,175. Most foreign currencies are easily changed at airports, banks, hotels or money changers. The currency exchange rate fluctuates regularly. Check you bank for the latest exchange rates. Banking hours are from 08.00 am to 14.00 noon Mondays to Fridays, and from 08.00 am to 11.00 am on Saturdays. Bank in hotels usually stay open longer hours while money changers are generally open till evening. ATM is available in many places, provides VISA, MASTER, ALTO and more.

Travelers’ checks are accepted by leading banks and hotels in principal cities, including Bali. The use of travelers' checks in Indonesia is as popular as in any other countries. Diners Club and American Express, Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted at hotels, department stores, shops, restaurants and pubs. According to Indonesian banking regulations, payment by credit cards should be charged in local currency.

Business and g offices are open either from 08.00 am to 04.00 pm or 09.00 to 05.00 pm from Monday to Friday.

Dress is normally casual and light clothing is advisable due to the hot, humid climate. Trousers or slack and shirts are generally considered appropriate but a jacket and tie are required for formal occasions when making official calls. For certain formal occasions, long-sleeved batik shirts are acceptable. For travel to mountain areas, a light sweater or jacket is recommended. Halter tops and shorts are frowned upon in most places except around sport facilities or on the beach, proper decorum should especially be observed when visiting places or worship.

Tipping is not encouraged in hotels and restaurants if 10% service is already included in a bill. Extra tips from satisfied customers are for encouragement. At most hotels a service charge of 10% is added to the bills. An airport porter expects 15,000 Rupiah per bag.

The major cities have shopping complexes, supermarkets and department stores where prices are fixed. They start open from 09.00 am to 09.00 pm everyday and some even on Sunday. At small shops bargaining might be necessary.

Bali has various shopping spots. Main tourist roads are often lined with shops and stalls selling crafts of all types. Ubud (25 km North of Denpasar) and the surrounding villages of Pengosekan, Mas and Batuan are breeding grounds for arts, ranging from 'wayang style' paintings, polished woodcarving and antiques to traditional Balinese carvings made from volcanic purnice. For those who do not like to wander too much from the beach, Kuta and Legian have more modern shopping areas.

Day 1 Bali - Medan - Berastagi - Parapat Upon arrival at the airport in Medan, greet and proceed the trip on the forested foothills of the Bukit Barisan where S-turns provides panoramic view to the delightfully cool and picturesque town of Berastagi with en-route stop at the Nature Reserved, which lies on an escarpment overlooking the lowlands, and fruit market selling wonderfully fresh fruits, flowers and vegetables. Inland, visit to Ambarita Village to see the stone furniture as the remnant of the megalithic culture of the Toba Batak, Simanindo Village to see the long house of the Toba Batak King, which now becomes a museum, and a chance to watch Toba Batak folk dance that performed by the villagers, Tao Island for a brief respite and swim in the tranquil water of Lake Toba. Day I Bali - Bima - Komodo Depart Bali by morning flight to Bima. Upon arrival at Salahudin airport of Bima, you will be met and transferred to Sape harbour, then take a boat accross the Sape strait to Komodo Island. Lunch will be served on the boat. Dinner and overnigt stay at the Ranger's House (Wisma PPA) or on the boat.

Day 2 Komodo - Sape - Bima After having breakfast, the safari will start with a half an hours walk ( 2 km ) to Banunggulung to see the Komodo dragons which were scientifically described in 1912 as Varanus Komodoensis, the largest monitor lizard in the world, which can grow up to 3 metres long. It is estimated that there are 2,000 lizards on Komodo Island. The Island is also a good place for birdlife with cockatoos and gosong birds ( Megapodius Reindwardti ) among others. This is the highlight of this adventure. The rest of time is free to visit the small but interesting Park Laboratory Museum, and relax on the beach. At midday, sail back to Sape. Lunch will be served on the boat. Upon arrival at Sape harbour, you will be transferred direct to your simple hotel in Bima for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3 Bima - Denpasar - OutAfter having breakfast at hotel, you will be transferred to the airport for flight to Denpasar.
