Generally, each chart or visualization should have a purpose – “what decision will you take based on the information displayed?”
Assemble the right teamA successful dashboard project generally requires a Database Developer, an Analyst and a Business SME. The Database Developer ensures that data is available in a manner that the analyst can access and manipulate it. The Analyst creates visualizations that provide non-obvious insights that are defined by the Business SME.

8 Tableau Server – Enterprise Grade Solution
Licensing CostsTableau Server licenses are based on named users of 10, 25, 50, 100 or larger starting at $10,000 and a 25% annual maintenance fee. This is a fixed cost and a traditional licensing model.
AWS and Tableau recently launched a “consumption” based licensing model where you can pay for the software by the hour. For example a 10 user Tableau Server license costs $0.63 per hour or $5,500 annually.
The hourly licensing model provides great flexibility especially for organizations that are starting on their data visualization journey and want to execute a limited time “experiment”.
Hosting CostsIn addition to the licensing costs, when hosting the Tableau Server, costs for servers, network and storage need to be accounted for. AWS provides many resources for helping users get started. A new way to buy and explore enterprise software is to use the AWS Marketplace.
