OVENIA Hostelling International SloveniaHostelling International Slovenia (HI Slovenia) is the only national representative of Slovenia in the International Youth Hostel Federation (Hostelling International – HI). HI is a non-governmental and non-profit organization active in about 90 countries in the world. The organization works closely together with UNESCO (United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization), WTO (World Tourism Organization) and other important international organization – also it was proclaimed the sixth largest organization that offers overnighting. With 4 million members it is one of the largest youth organizations in the world and is the only network of youth hostels with about 4.000 objects for spending the night, 1.5 million beds and 30-40 overnight stays annually.

HI has high standards for youth hostels, based on the treatment of the guests, security, cleanliness and privacy. But it is not its only role. Since it was established in 1932 it encourages young people for better intercultural understanding through informal education and peace, global friendship and environmentalism. The international organization, with a strong support of its national members, it offers interaction among youth of various nationalities and cultures, exchange of experience, getting to know their peers and after all themselves.

For this the organization has international programs for youth, above all the ones with lesser chances, through which we spread the mission of Hostelling International, which remained the same since 1932:

To promote the education of all young people of all nations, but especially young people of limited means, by encouraging in them a greater knowledge, love and care of the countryside and an appreciation of the cultural values of towns and cities in all parts of the world, and as ancillary thereto, to provide hostels or other accommodation in which there shall be no distinctions of race, nationality, colour, religion, sex, class or political opinions and thereby to develop a better understanding of their fellow men, both at home and abroad.

PZS, with its 48 hostels around Slovenia, ensures safe, budget friendly and quality boarding for all types of groups. This includes the educational field trips with various themes (history, art or language courses) as well as extracurricular activities for schools, students, sporting and other groups – or simply friends who want a joint active holiday.

Hostel Celje is located in a recently refurbished historical building close to the railway and bus station. The youth hostel has 11 rooms, each one theme-decorated by a group of artists to take you into a parallel universe of myths and legends from Celje’s history. The hostel is part of the youth centre. It also contains a café, conference hall, and numerous opportunities for outdoor sports and games. Totally hostel offers 42 beds in 11 rooms. There are five theme-decorated double rooms and two single rooms in the upper floor. Each room is uniquely designed and has its own story. All rooms come with an ensuite shower and wash basin; two of the double beds also have a balcony. Furthermore, there are four dorms with six to eight comfortable beds in the mezzanine. Every room is decorated with elements of the myths and legends of Celje. The dorms are served by a shared bathroom with separate toilets, a dining and socializing area with a kitchen, and a laundry service room with a washing machine and a dryer. All rooms are equipped with a wash basin and a locker cabinet. You can also rent bikes for free.

The hostel offers numerous options for sports activities. You may test your skill on the mini indoor climbing wall or work on your slack lining tricks, play volleyball or table tennis.

Old castle Celje Celje Castle (also known as Celje Upper Castle or Old Castle) is a castle ruin in Celje, Slovenia, formerly the seat of the Counts of Celje and one of the most important castles in Slovenia. It stands on three hills to the southeast of Celje, where the river Savinja meanders into the Laško valley. Today it is well restored, offering lovely viewing points, a nice cafe and rich cultural programme including concerts and historical re-enactments on weekends.


Šmartinsko lake Šmartinsko lake with an area of 1.07 km2, the largest artificial lakes (reservoirs) in Slovenia. It lies north of Celje on the way to Vojnik and is formed by the damming of the stream Koprivnica. The lake is a popular tourist destination. Zorbing, walking on water, boat ride, canoe and picnic on the shores of the lake are just things you have to experience when visiting our city.

Celje Regional MuseumCelje Regional Museum is an institution for the recording, collection, conservation, research and presents the cultural heritage of Celje and Celje region in the time period from prehistory to date, except for the history of 20th century. Established in 1882 as the City Museum and was renamed in 1965 to the Regional Museum.

Celjska kočaCeljska koča is located near Celje, it is located only 7 km from the centre of city. Hotel Celjska koča is situated on the slopes below Tolsti vrh. From the hut to which can be reached by car, there is a beautiful view of the nearby Grmada, educational paths where you get to know about plants and mushrooms and adrenaline bob cart you will never forget.

The glass photo studio of Josip Pelikan Glass photographic studio dates from the year 1899, photographer Joseph Pelikan has worked in it since 1920. Today there is a permanent museume exhibition, which testifies to the rich and creative life and work of photographer-artist Josip Pelikan, who transformed Celje and its years masterfully into a permanent memory.

Museum of recent history Celje with Children’s Museum Herman’s denMuseum of Contemporary History Celje Regional History Museum, which deals with collecting, storing, documenting and exhibiting the history of Celje and the 20th century. Different contents from the lives make him recognizable, because they grew into a museum complex. Given the number and variety of activities the museum is among the most vibrant in Slovenia. To visitors, in addition to diverse cultural programs are also available the museum shop, pastry shop and cafe.

The exhibition opened in 1995 and is still the only children’s museum in Slovenia. The museum for children draws its contents both from the past and the present, from festivities and everyday life. The museum collects, keeps, researches and exhibits the Slovenian movable cultural heritage.
