of pole that has been installed on the TEP distribution system. TEP’s steel pole corrosion
study and what changes were made after its completion will be reviewed. In addition,

Presentation 1: EPR Cable as a Replacement for Lead Cable
Presenter: William Crawford, Vice President Engineering, The Okonite Company
Description: Paper insulated, lead covered (PILC) cables have been used
extensively throughout the country since the early 1900’s. When properly
maintained, experience shows that many of these cables are still operational
today. For users wishing to replace PILC cables, the preferred construction is
ethylene propylene rubber (EPR) insulated cable with a concentric flat strap
neutral. This presentation will highlight the construction, manufacturing,
benefits, and challenges associated with both cable types.
