Synopsis (This outlines the flow of the party events).

Binkie Blossom invited her closest friends to her annual celebration. They arrived in style and participated in a crazy game of human bingo while munching on yummy snacks. Then, to everyone’s shock, a kidnapping occurred! The guests mingled and caught up on the latest gossip while trying to decide what to do about the kidnapping. The kidnapper was clever and came up with various ways of getting the ransom notes to the guests – including riddles and challenging codes! A hilarious balloon relay challenge was played by the guests as they awaited the next ransom note. Dinner was served to the guests as they strategized on how to best handle the kidnapping. The guests played a couple of fun games – the ‘Careful Cotton Carry’ game and ‘Eye Witness’ - before starting a thorough investigation of who the kidnapper really was. Everyone was relieved when a fun scavenger hunt revealed the kidnapping victim! The guests turned in their best guess of whodunit and the motive before participating in an awesome dance contest and the challenging ‘What am I?’ game. The guests sat in a circle and enjoyed desserts and yummy hot chocolate while one-by-one, they revealed their involvement, if any, in the kidnapping and the kidnapper confessed! The excellent party ended with an awesome game of charades. Overall, it was the best celebration Binkie Blossom ever had!

The Kidnapping Caper at Binkie Blossom’s Celebration (Ages 10-16, 9 required players, electronic version)


GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PARENT HOST Thank you for purchasing ‘The Kidnapping Caper at Binkie Blossom’s Celebration’ game. This mystery is a light-hearted and comical mystery that allows your daughter and her guests to step into a different character while trying to solve the entertaining mystery. The party can be a huge success as long as everyone relaxes and lets the mystery unravel during each round. Print this kit and cut out the clue cards for each round, placing them into color-coded and labeled envelopes for each player, each round. As an economical alternative, you can scroll the clues and secure with a ribbon, and be sure to label the outside of the scroll for each player and designate the round. For ease of instruction, we will assume you are using the envelope method to prepare the kit. During the party, your job as the parent host is to ensure that the envelopes are given to the guests at the appropriate times and most of all – that you, your daughter and her guests are having a blast!! Collect the necessary props in advance of the party and plant at certain places and times during the party (see the round instructions for each round). Make sure to read these parent host instructions for each round prior to the party to ensure that you have everything in place for the big day!

another optional prop.

OPTIONAL PRE-GAME ROUND Before the party, send out the game invitations to your guests as they have a character list and a brief mystery description. This way, the guests can be familiar with the other guests at the mystery before they arrive to the party. The game invitations are located on the site where you purchased the game click here. This optional pre-game round is to be implemented approximately one week before the party. Please note that this round is to generate pre-game excitement and is not necessary to solve the mystery. These announcements are put into labeled envelopes with room on the envelope to add the guests’ mailing address or you can just hand them to the guests. The ways to deliver these clues are as follows:

Send them to your guests via snail mail - USPS. You can hand these to your guests as they arrive before you give the round one envelopes.

ROUND ONE - APPETIZERS If any of the optional bonus games are played this round, such as the ‘Human Bingo game, do so as soon as the girls arrive. If you do start with a bonus game, wait until after the game and then go over the instructions of how to play a mystery game. Make sure that all of the guests understand how the game will work and then go over the characters (you can introduce them one-by-one and go over their descriptions). When the guests are ready to begin, read the ransom note #1. You should place in an envelope and open it in front of the girls. Explain to them that it was slipped under the front door or taped to the front door and you just found it. After you read the ransom note, hand it to the girls to examine and then pass out the round 1 envelopes and let them know that once everyone opens their envelope, the mystery officially begins.

ROUND TWO - DINNER Read the ransom note #3 to the guests. Explain that you found it again slipped underneath the front door or taped to the front door. Give it to the guests to examine, let them talk about it and then pass out the round two envelopes. Instruct the guests to mingle with each other to discuss their clues with each other. Explain that they should be going around ‘gossiping’ about each other’s’ characters. They can also discuss the ransom notes and what they are thinking about them at this point.

ROUND THREE – THE INVESTIGATION Before you pass out the round three envelopes to the guests, pass out the Mystery Investigation sheets and a pen/pencil to each guest. Explain that they should use this round to take notes on the mystery to figure out whodunit and their motive for doing it. Pass out the round three envelopes. Sabrina Hogwarts will have a code to decipher in her envelope in the message from the kidnapper. She is to work with the group to decipher it. The answer to the code is: It’s by soap and a sink. But


not where you get a drink. (The answer is the bathroom.) The code is solved by numbering the letters of the alphabet (A=1, B=2, C=3, and so on) and THEN unscrambling the letters to form the words. If for any reason the girls are not solving it in a timely fashion, give them the hint on how to figure out the code and then let work through it.


GAME.

ROUND FOUR – FINAL SOLUTION ROUND WITH HOT CHOCOLATE AND DESSERTS

Hand out the envelopes for Round 4 envelopes to the guests. This is the final solution round. Instruct the guests to sit in a circle. One at a time, each guest should stand in the center of the circle and read their reveal card to the other players – starting with Goldendust. It’s optimal if the guests read the clue cards in the order that is specified on their clue cards for this round. However - it doesn't matter what order the guests read their card, but make sure that the guilty party reads her card last. If you do not want to know who is guilty, do not read the solution four cards.

Proposed estimated party timeline: (About a 3 - 3.5 hour party depending on the optional games played)

1 week prior: Send pre-game clues 1 week prior to the party Time O: When the girls arrive, play the Human Bingo game. (20 min) 20 minutes: Go over the game instructions and introduce each character to the group. 27 minutes: Read ransom note number 1. 30 minutes: Pass out the Round One envelopes. 32 minutes: Allow the girls time to mingle (gossip) with their round one clue cards. Serve a light snack. Mary’s clue will contain an extra note from the kidnapper and a scavenger hunt for ransom #2 hidden inside of the refrigerator in the kitchen will take place. (~20 min) 52 minutes: Getting the party started’ relay game (~20 min) 1 hour, 10 minutes: To begin round 2, read ransom note number 3. 1 hour 15 minutes: Pass out the round two envelopes to the guests, allow them to mingle (gossip), solve the riddle in Binkie’s clue to find ransom note #4 hidden under the couch in the family room. (20 minutes) 1 hour, 35 minutes: Serve dinner to the guests and allow them to discuss the ransom and their clue cards. 1 hour, 45 minutes: Read ransom note number 5 to the guests during dinner. 1 hour, 50 minutes: Play the Careful Cotton Carry Game or (and) the Eyewitness game (1 game is 20 min, 2 is 40 min) – we’ll assume you’ll play one. 2 hours, 10 minutes: Pass out the Mystery Investigation Sheets to the guests and a pen/pencil. Explain that they are to start figuring out which one of them is the kidnapper. 2 hours, 15 minutes: Pass out the round three envelopes. Sabrina’s clue will contain a coded message for the ransom note number 6 – hidden in the nearest bathroom. This will direct the girls to find Zangelina. Zangelina is hidden anywhere in the house. The boundaries are given to the girls and then they hunt for her and then meet back in the party room to mingle (gossip) with their round three clues. They’ll submit their guesses of ‘whodunit’ by using the Mystery Investigation Sheets. (20 - 30 min) 2 hours, 35 minutes: The Awesome Dance Contest and / or the ‘What am I’ game is played (20 min for one and 2 is 40 min) 2 hours, 55 minutes: Start round four by serving hot chocolate and dessert (birthday cake) to the guests. The solutions are read by the guests one at a time in front of the group. (15 min) 3 hours, 10 minutes: The optional charades challenge can be played (20 min) *The party can be shortened by not playing the optional games or extended by adding all of the optional games.

HOW TO PLAY A MYSTERY

Guest Instructions Professional actors are great for mysteries but do not worry because you do not have to be a good actor – or an actor at all – to play a mystery! The only quality that you need to possess is the ability to have a blast! The mystery party is separated into 4 rounds. During the party, you will be handed an envelope that contains the clues necessary for your character for the round. The clues will provide everything that you will need to solve the mystery. However, during the investigation segment of the game, you will need to ask the right questions and pay close attention to other guests’ clues to be able to get the whole picture of what has happened.

ROUND ONE ROUND CLUES Cut out these clues and stuff them into envelopes that are labeled with the appropriate character’s name. Handing out these envelopes begins round one.

CHARACTER N ROUND ONE

You are known all over town for having the best parties. Everyone was trying to get invited, but you had to keep the guest list low. Even some celebrities were trying to get invited and you had to say ‘no.’

Iron Mary Rackham is one of your best friends, but you don’t want to live on a pirate ship with her.

Why don’t Sabrina Hogwarts and Goldendust like each other very much? Maybe you should get to the bottom of it? Maybe you can help them repair their problems?

Remember, you are playing the ‘overly happy’ party girl. Make sure to socialize excessively with the other guests and no matter what – you always have a huge smile on your face and you are constantly laughing…at everything! To you, life is one big party!

ROUND TWO CLUES - cutout and stuff into labeled envelopes, seal the envelopes and handing them to your guests begins round two. Slip this riddle clue inside of Binkie Blossom’s round two clue envelope. ‘The kidnapper slipped it to

Tell everyone that you have read your crystal ball and you see that Zangelina Holie is actually in Paris shopping for a new purse.

Say that you can see clearly in your ball that this whole situation is not really a kidnapping, but it is a big joke. (Of course you are lying, you are a compulsive liar!)

You know that Iron Mary Rackham has kidnapped at least half of the pirates that now work on her pirate crew.

When you think you’ve got it solved who the kidnapper is, hand in your guess on your Mystery Investigation Sheet!

Tell everyone that Sabrina Hogwarts is the kidnapper. If she’s a witch, she has to be the guilty party.

Madison Bloom really doesn’t like Hollywood or anything to do with Hollywood. Zangelina lives in Hollywood.

So, I’m not your kidnapper either. What about you, Daisy May? You sure do need a lot of money and the kidnapper was after the same amount of cash that you needed for a while.”

For the parent host - for the final solution round, here is the order in which the guests are to read their solution cards. If any of them are not guests, simply skip them and go to the next in line.
