2012 Hunter Derby Series Information Greenhawk Nova Scotia and Freedom Cycle Kawasaki have teamed up to offer an exciting new series! The 2012 Greenhawk Hunter Derby Series will offer competitors an opportunity to showcase the talents of horse and rider over a challenging course with performance, handy and “take your own line” options. This class offers elements of both a Hunter Classic and a Handy Hunter class. The 2012 Greenhawk Hunter Derby Series will consist of 4 classes with prize money of $500 per class. Competitions hosting a Greenhawk Hunter Derby are: Restless Pines Tournament June 16, 2012 Mememto Farm Horse Show July 7-8, 2012 Horses at Work Hunter/Jumper Show (Hunter Day) July 14-15, 2012 Coveside Classic August 23-26, 2012 Each Greenhawk Hunter Derby class will offer prize money of $500. Greenhawk Hunter Derby classes are open to riders (professional/non-pro/amateur/junior) on horses competing at 3’ and above. The Greenhawk Hunter Derby classes are not open to ponies. SPECIFICATIONS Not rated for EC Awards. Judging Each competitor receives a score with 3 components.

1. Hunter score – the class is judged as a Handy Hunter class with a score 2. High performance bonus – 2 bonus points awarded for each high performance option taken on course (eg.

natural jumps, more challenging line options). At least 2 options will be offered on course. 3. Handy bonus – 10 additional bonus points may be awarded at the judge’s discretion for additional handiness

and high performance displayed on course, including: • Efficiency of stride (eg. less strides) • Unique turns and approaches • Inside turns • Places to leave out strides • Slices • Athleticism and boldness (eg. big gallop to jumps) • Impressionable start and finish

Jumps Greenhawk Hunter Derby classes will be run as one round at a height of 3’. The Greenhawk Hunter Derby Series is in no way meant to represent an “extreme sport” for hunters or a bravery test. Course elements that are not appropriate include: jumping any type of water, having jumps next to the open water or oversized jumper banks. Each course should have a relatively straightforward “easy way around” for riders or horses just moving up. A gradual inviting start to the course is encouraged. High performance and handy options allow the more experienced riders an opportunity to showcase the talents of their horses and are the keys to making the derby class exciting. Course Should Include

• At least 12 jumps should be offered on course • Traditional hunter jumps • Natural jumps (eg. bank, post and rail, board fence/gate, stone wall, logs, hedge, brush, pens/shute)

Page 8: Horses At Work Hunter Jumper EC Gold Chorsesatwork.weebly.com/uploads/4/5/5/9/4559426/ec_prize_book_h… · Welcome to Horses At Work EC Gold C Hunter Jumper Competition! We welcome

• Handy options (eg. inside turns, unique approaches, combination complex, broken lines, unrelated distances, trot or walk jump, hand gallop)

• No ground lines are encouraged on some jumps • Spooky natural jumps should be offered as options only

GENERAL Each Hunter Derby class will offer prize money of $500, split as follows: 1st:$150 2nd:$100 3rd:$80 4th:$70 5th:$60 6th:$40 Entry fee must be set at $30. Formal attire is recommended. A course walk will be offered prior to the class. Ribbons to 8th. A cooler will be presented to the winner of each class. SERIES CHAMPION AND RESERVE To determine the Series Champion and Reserve Champion horse, scores from each 2012 Greenhawk Hunter Derby class in which the horse has competed will be added to acquire a cumulative score for the series. The horse with the highest cumulative score after the 4 classes have been run will be awarded the Series Championship. The horse with the second highest cumulative score after the 4 classes have been run will be awarded the Series Reserve Championship. Series Champion and Reserve prizes will be awarded after the completion of the 4th Hunter Derby class at the 2012 Coveside Classic Horse Show. Any horse which has competed in one or more 2012 Greenhawk Hunter Derby Class is eligible for Series Champion and Reserve awards. Prizes are as follows: Champion: Custom Cooler and $500 shopping spree at Greenhawk Halifax* Reserve Champion: Custom Cooler and $250 shopping spree at Greenhawk Halifax* In case of a tie for Series Champion If 2 or more horses are tied for Series Champion, these horses will jump off over a shortened course using the Hunter Derby class fences. The horse with the highest “jump off” score will be awarded Series Champion, with the horse with the second highest score being awarded Series Reserve Champion. If any horse with a tying Series Champion score is not present, it will receive a score of zero for the “jump off” and be placed accordingly (eg. if two horses tie and one horse is not present, the horse which is present will be Series Champion and the horse which is not present will be Series Reserve Champion). NOTE Competition Organizers are responsible for ensuring the following:

- Class specifications must be sent to judge and course designer before the show begins. - Results must be emailed to Greenhawk ([email protected]) within 48 hours of the end of competition.
