Horror Film Trailers: New Ideas, Planning and Preparations

Most, if not all, filming will be produced in my decided forest location, being Thetford Forest, as that is going to be the main setting of my horror film and it will instantly set up what my teaser trailer is trying to advertise to my audience, being a horror film. The images show exactly the location of where my chosen location is for filming, which is located just on the outskirts of the village of the Mundford.

Settings

Instead of four to five characters in the trailer, I have put that down to two characters in the trailer due to availability, the two actors who I have currently lined up for to participate in my movie trailer are yet to be decided, but I will update this blog for any further developments concerning my actors. I plan on my actors being one female and one male, ideally two friends of mine I have in mind to participate in the horror film trailer. I shall be also starring as one of the characters in the trailer, but roles are still yet to be decided. I am currently thinking about which roles each of my proposed actors will be playing, again I will update my blog for any further developments concerning this.

Characters & Actors

I have currently got a few props in consideration to use for my movie trailer. In consideration, I might be using a Scream mask for the horror of the movie trailer, so my audience can instantly recognise that my movie trailer will be advertising a horror film. I have also decided that my horror will also make use of a weapon, preferable a knife. A knife will help support the idea that my trailer is advertising a horror film as a knife is an iconic prop used in many horror films, so my trailer will be able to conform to the codes and conventions of horror films in general.

Props

I am currently considering to use fake blood in the horror trailer, as blood is usually portrayed in horror films, such as the 'Saw' films. The use of blood will make my trailer, to my audience, more realistic and more believable as a horror film trailer.

Makeup

I have decided that the horror in my movie trailer will be wearing dark clothing, preferably black clothing, as black is quite a dark and sinister colour and I want my horror to achieve that dark, sinister persona. Since I want to be filming in the afternoon, I want it to be reasonably dark so the clothing of my horror will make my horror even more frightening and unusual, because If my horror would be wearing casual clothing, it wouldn’t make him scary and wouldn’t make my horror believable as something abnormal or menacing to my audience.

For my characters, I haven't decided any specific costumes for them as normal everyday casual clothing, as I want my two normal characters to be as normal as possible so to achieve a sense of normality and to keep the trailer as realistic and as believable to my audience as possible.
