Horror Poster Deconstructions

Page 2: Horror Film Poster Deconstructions

The red tagline at the top of the page makes it stand out from the rest of the page for more impact.

Having the vital information and the movie companies logos work well small at the bottom of the page as it is generally not what the audience wants to know about.

Having the date in red works well as it stands out from the less important text.

There is a clever use of a mouth and nose here to make them look like eyes, creates a very eerie feeling. This also connotes that there might be a lot of screaming in the film as it looks like the mouths are screaming.

The phone prop links to film title very well.

The black background connotes suspense and mystery, a convention of the genre.

It is a common convention to have the subject in the center of poster as it is the most effective place.

The blurred effect on the title connotes panic.

It is a very common convention in horror posters to have a tag line at the top of the page as it looks very effective.

Like in the other two posters, again the subject is in the middle of poster as this is the most effective place.

This large black gap in-between the image and text connotes mystery as the audience don’t know what is in this gap.

I think it is very clever the way that they have made the film title look like a mirror, in running with the actual name of the film.

It is very important to have the date of release somewhere so that the audience know when they can see it.

They have the most well known actors in larger writing to attract the audience.

They have made the face slightly blurred with connotes panic and danger.

You can see something in the reflection of her eyes which connotes mystery as we cant tell what it is.

The main reason that the text looks so good is because they used a wide variety of fonts.

The forest background makes the poster a lot more scary, so I will make sure that I have a background in mine .

The weapon connotes danger.

Having small amounts of text in red is very popular and also very effective. If they had put all of the white text in red as well it would of made the title and date a lot less effective.

In all of the posters that I have analysed almost all of the edges are plain black. This connotes mystery as you cant see where the poster really ends.

The tagline gives the audience a clue to what the film is about.

All of the trees are leaning in towards the subject which makes the audiences eyes draw towards him and places more emphasis than him.

There is very good attention to detail in this poster as you can see from the ground here. A lot of posters don’t and just choose to have a plain back background which is a lot less effective in my opinion.
