WHAT IS A HORMONE?

It’s a chemical substance secreted by living cells which

upon its release from blood to target site elicit a

response and thus regulate various functions of the

body.

The kind of action it performs can be classified as

AUTOCRINE, PARACRINE AND ENDOCRINE.

WHAT IS A HORMONE RECEPTOR???????

A hormone receptor is a molecule that can bind to

a specific hormone. Receptors for peptide

hormones tend to be found on the plasma

membrane of cells, whereas receptors for lipid-

soluble hormones are usually found within the

cytoplasm. Upon hormone binding, the receptor

can initiate multiple signaling pathways which

ultimately lead to changes in the behavior of the

target cells.
