Principal’s Report

Have Your Say – an Online Survey Another opportunity for you to have input to our School Review is to access our online survey. There are half a dozen questions online. Some are short yes/no and others allow a more detailed response. The survey will take you about five minutes to complete. Click on this link and you will be able to access the confidential survey. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YXHX5K5

Presentation Ball We are all looking forward to the Presentation Ball which is being held this coming Saturday night. It will be a gala event for our school when 12 of our students participate in this exciting event. All the best to the students involved in the Presentation Ball. Mrs Burns As you will know by now, Mrs Burns has taken up a teaching position at Drouin Secondary College for the remainder of 2020. We wish her well in her move. Meanwhile, until such time as we can appoint a replacement teacher, Mrs Wright, Mrs Hallam, Mrs Robertson and other staff will have a variation to their teaching loads to cover Mrs Burns' classes. These changes have brought about some timetable changes hence there is a new timetable for the final three weeks of Term 1. We are anticipating we will have a replacement teacher ready for the start of Term 2.

School Annual Report for 2019 The Hopetoun P-12 College School Annual Report for 2019 has been prepared and will be presented at our Annual Reporting Meeting next Tuesday night. The report captures the key indicators of school performance and reports on progress made during 2019 towards improving student learning. Parents and carers are welcome to attend the meeting to hear the presentation of the report and you can access the document after it is approved and uploaded to our website.

Term 1 is rapidly coming to a close. We have two weeks to go and a lot to get covered in that

short time-frame. Our student leaders head off to Melbourne on Sunday for the GRIP conference

on Monday, we have School Council, a Parents’ forum and our annual athletics carnival. Yes, we

close-out the term with our school athletic sports on Thursday 26th March, the day before the term

ends. The last day of term, Friday 27th March, will be an SRC casual clothes day. Interim reports,

which provide information on effort, attitude, work level and behaviour, will be available late this

term.

Weekly Student Awards

Well done to the following students for receiving

Students of the Week

School Review – Update Last week I met with a group of Year 7-8 students to ask them some questions about our school, about transition and about how they learn. The information gathered will be added to our School Review, showing some of the thoughts and ideas of our students. There will be more of these focus group meetings for students over the coming weeks. Parents are also encouraged to have their say. You can come along to our parent forum on Thursday 19th (3.30pm in room 4) or add your thoughts into our online survey which is currently open (see link in my Principal’s Report). School councillors will have their opportunity to have input to the Review when we meet next Tuesday evening.

Classroom Teacher

Primary Prattle Year 3 – 6 Well we are in week seven already! The term has flown and the students have been very busy. Every day we ensure we stop for a Brain Break, where we take time out for some physical activity and a healthy snack of fruit or vegetable. On wet days when we can’t get out for a run the students participate in dancing. Check out the groovy moves of the Year 3-6 team.

All students are encouraged to attend Breakfast Club before school in order to fuel their bodies and to help their minds to be ready for learning. Find us in the kitchen.

HOMEWORK

Please support your child with their homework. Homework is given out weekly and in the Year 3-6

class it is due in on Friday morning. This homework also includes reading on a nightly basis, which

needs to be recorded in their diary. Students are encouraged to attend homework club on Thurs-

day after school until 4pm and can check in with their teacher during the week if they need some-

thing confirmed. (NO Homework Club this week due to Parent Teacher Interviews).

Students need to bring their diaries every day to record information and for communication

between home and school.

Policy Update First Aid Policy It is probably an appropriate time to mention our First Aid Policy given the extent of illness around the world at this point in time. There are two parts to this policy – management of student illness at school and administration of first aid to a student at school.

The policy states; Students who are unwell should not attend school. It then states, that if a stu-dent becomes unwell at school, they may be directed to the office then to the sick bay and moni-tored by staff. Depending on the nature of their symptoms, staff may contact parents/carers or an emergency contact person to ask them to collect the student.

If an incident occurs at school or illness takes effect, then we have trained First Aid staff to manage the matter. Minor injuries such as scrapes and scratches and minor twisted tendons will be man-aged locally and, if deemed necessary, parents will be notified. More serious injuries will be re-ferred to parents/carers and serious cases may necessitate an ambulance call-out.

Head injuries are regarded as serious and will be reported to parents. In accordance with guidance from the Department of Education and Training, analgesics, including paracetamol and aspirin, will not be stored at school or provided as a standard first aid treatments. This is because they can mask signs of serious illness or injury.

A copy of our First Aid Policy is available on our website.
