Principal’s Report

Primary Open Afternoon

The primary classrooms will be open tomorrow for parents, carers friends and relatives to come along and celebrate the end of term. Classrooms will be open from 1.30 to 2.30pm followed by an assembly in room 10. You are invited to come along, check out the classrooms, browse the Book Fair and join our celebrations.

Career Advisory Service

One of the changes in the provision of Careers Education is the introduction of a careers information pro-gram into Year 9. The program is called the Career Advisory Service and involves two important compo-nents.

The first is an online assessment tool which each Year 9 student completes to establish a careers profile. This is known as the Morrisby assessment and was completed by the students yesterday. The second will be an interview with a trained careers advisor. The interview will take place early next term before the Year 9 students head off on their overseas trip. The Career Advisory Service is delivered by an external provider and has been contracted by the Department to provide information and advice for the Year 9 students.

The Year 9 students have also been invited to attend the Careers Expo which will be held at Longerenong next Tuesday. This is a superb opportunity for not only the Year 9s but all of the students attending, to browse information on many different careers which will be represented at the Expo. The Expo will enable students to get an overview of the many, many different careers open to them.

Mid-Year Reports

The student mid-year reports are currently being prepared for distribution late next week. Assessments have been completed and teacher judgments have been made on student progress. When making these judgments, teachers draw on a range of information including formal tests and exams, informal assessments such as weekly revision tests, day-to-day work, assignments, input to class discussion and other informal strategies. We are aiming for every student to progress one year for every year of schooling. The mid-year reports will show progress over the past six months. For these reports, we expect six months growth in each of the academic areas. We also expect Effort, Behaviour and Homework to be rated as Very Good or Excel-lent. Attendance is also expected to be well within the 90-100% range unless severe illness prevails. It is widely known that the more school a student misses the harder it is to keep up with their learning and social interaction and catching-up becomes almost impossible.

Mid-year reports will therefore give you an overview of the 3As – Achievement, Attitude and Attendance.
