Fall Exhibition Prospectus What’s inside? Hope you had a nice Labor Day Weekend Welcome back MWS Members! I hope your summer was enjoyable, interesting and hopefully a little relaxing, too. For the first time since I started painting, I didn’t paint during the summer break. And now I realize how true John Lennon’s words were because I was busy making plans to paint, while a new life happened. My stepdaughter Elizabeth had a baby girl on July 9 th . It was such a joyful occasion that I was delighted to take a break to enjoy this new blessing. We all experience lulls, breaks and events in our lives that change our plans, or make new paths for us. Some are good and some challenge our expectations. These disruptions may be short-lived and welcome breaks, but they may also be difficult to shake. When the time is right your plans will eventually come back and take their place as what is happening in your life. Painting, a stroke of genius, Diane Lary MWS President

Hope you had a nice Labor Day Weekend

Welcome back MWS Members! I hope your summer wasenjoyable, interesting and hopefully a little relaxing, too.For the first time since I started painting, I didn’t paintduring the summer break. And now I realize how trueJohn Lennon’s words were because I was busy makingplans to paint, while a new life happened. Mystepdaughter Elizabeth had a baby girl on July 9th. It wassuch a joyful occasion that I was delighted to take a breakto enjoy this new blessing.We all experience lulls, breaks and events in our lives thatchange our plans, or make new paths for us. We are sad to inform you that Lori Quintilliani, PhD, a former MWSmember, succumbed to cancer and died on August 4, 2014. She was a formerteacher and an award winning artist. Our condolences to her family andfriends. Donations can be made in her name to The National Cancer InstituteGift Fund.

Congratulations, Beverly Borland on thebeautiful poster for the Botanical Exploration ofthe Everglades. Congratulations to BobbiGarber and Pauline Goldsmith who were alsoexhibiting.

Deborah Starbuck is dedicated to the arts and has been teaching in anumber of educational venues in South Florida for over 10 years. Deborahstudied art in Europe and trained with renowned artist Simon Greco. Shedisplays a wealth of experience in a broad scope of materials and disciplinesincluding sculpture, drawing and painting. Her murals. both exterior andinterior, are the focal points for many of South Florida’s most prominentresidences and business.

They are published!!! Congratulations to Beverly Borland, BobbiGarber and Pauline Goldsmith. Their illustrations are in the "The BigBad Book of Botany“ written by local author, Michael Largo, &illustrated by the Tropical Botanic Artists. Thirty-seven of theseimages were displayed at the Coral Gables Museum between August19th - 30th.

Congratulations to the MWS members that were juried into the FWS show this year. The FWS Convention will be held from Sept 18-22 in Deerfield Beach FL.

At the invitation of the Miami-Dade Public Schools and with a grant from theDade Cultural Arts Council, the Miami Watercolor Society will provided its16th annual teachers workshop at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden,September 6, 2014. The purpose of the all-day workshop is to instruct andstimulate art teachers in the skills and techniques of watercolor painting.Master watercolorist Dottie Greene, assisted by Donna Underwood, willdemonstrate how to effectively use the medium in their classrooms andpresent projects appropriate for the various grade levels that they teach.

Annual Fall Exhibition Entry Rules

2014 Fall CALENDAR

• Sept. 1- Oct. 6 – Accepting Entries for Fall Show;

form, fee & image postmark deadline October 6h.

• Sun October 12h -Intake for judging – drop off

paintings between 10 am & 12 noon at Pinecrest

Community Center.

• Sun October 12th-Pick up paintings at General

Meeting 1:30-3:30 pm

• November 3rd- 10 -1:30 pm drop off paintings at

gallery*

• Friday Nov. 7th - Opening Reception at Gallery*

7-9pm

Water media:The term “water media” includes any combination ofwater soluble pigments, except oil, that mix with water.The following are acceptable: Transparent watercolor, acrylics, casein, gouache,

tempera, watercolor crayons or pencils. No pastels, graphite or color pencil can constitute

more than 25% of the painting. Work must be UNVARNISHED. No water mixable oil

products. Water media collage works are acceptable, but no

print or non-paper material pieces can be part of thecollage.

Commissions on Sales:Miami Watercolor Society will not charge commission. However, the gallery will retain a fee of 30% on the sale of any painting accepted in the exhibition, so please price your artwork accordingly. All paintings are considered to be for sale unless listed as NFS (Not for Sale) in the submitted entry form. Paintings marked POR (Price on Request) will be considered NFS.

Late Pickup:MWS will charge $25 per day for late pickup.

General: A digital file or photograph taken prior to framing is

required. Send the jpg via email or CD by thepostmarked date with your entry form [email protected] Your painting may be used for publicity purposes. No Refunds or Cancellations.

Agreement:Signing the entry form shall constitute an agreement tocomply with all of the conditions set forth herein, as wellas a commitment to participate. Once accepted into theexhibition a painting cannot be removed until theexhibition concludes. Additionally, your painting may beused on our website or for promotion or publicitypurposes Once accepted, paintings cannot be removed from the

exhibition prior to closing date.

Size: Maximum, Framed: 40” x 40” OR 1600 square inches Minimum, Framed: 16” x 20”; Maximum Weight: 20 lbs. No miniatures or images smaller than 9x12” accepted

(framed to 16x20”) 3D watercolor works on watercolor paper must also

comply with the following: Min size 12x10x4”; max28x18x10”; work must be wired to hang on wall.

Framing: Maximum depth: 4” Maximum width: 2.5” Crosswire large frames for structural strength. Use single twisted wire for hanging. All works must have Plexiglas glazing only, NO GLASS. Standard metal (silver or gold in color) or plain wood

frames (NO bright colors). Current exhibition entry tag must be placed on upper right

corner on back of painting.Mats: One (1), two (2) and three (3) mats allowed. Primary mat must be white or off-white. Colored liner mats must be a SOLID color with no more

than ¼” color exposed. Mounted or floated painting in the frame must be against a

white or off-white background. No colored backing allowed to show around painting.Paintings: All works must be rendered on PAPER support, including

paper-mounted board, Yupo, and watercolor canvas. No silk or other materials allowed. Diptych or triptych entries must be within a single frame. ALL WORK must be original, executed without instruction.

No prints or computer enhanced work. No work copiedfrom any copyrighted material other than the Artist’s. Artwork must be signed and the signature must be visible. Painting must NOT have been shown in any previous Miami

Watercolor Society Exhibition. Painting must have been painted within two calendar years

prior to this exhibition. Subject Matter: No nudes or political statements.Liability:Miami Watercolor Society will handle paintings with allpossible care; however the society will not acceptresponsibility for loss or damage.
