Do you get jealous? Do you focus more on the things that other people have than on the gifts that God has given to you? Are you pompous? Do you acquire more possessions to impress others? At times we are all guilty of these things. Pray for more humility. Pray to become less “self-centered” and become more “God-centered”.

Tienes celos?

AN ONGOING MISSION In his hometown synagogue, Jesus’ neighbors are amazed by his words. Nevertheless, they remind each other, “Is this not Joseph’s son?” Surely the people know who he is. The carpenter’s son. The young man who had learned in this very synagogue. The boy down the street. Conflict arises as Jesus begins to define himself in a new way. When he compares himself to the ancient prophets Elijah and Elisha the tensions grow. The tensions multiply when Jesus begins to tell of a new mission for God’s people: the good news of the scriptures is intended for all. In his famous passage from the First Letter to the Corin-thians, St. Paul reminds us of the eternal nature of love. Love does not come to an end. In today’s readings, we are reminded that, like love, Jesus’ mission cannot be contained. Jesus slips through the crowd of persecutors and moves on to new chal-lenges. We are called to this same perseverance in the name of love. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

On January 31, Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS, shared a report of child sexual abuse by clergy in the Archdio-cese of San Antonio with the people of our parishes. With this report, the Archdiocese of San Antonio will present a transparent account of clergy sexual abuse of children in our local church from 1940 to the present. Archbishop Gustavo, with this report, expresses regret and apologizes for the failings and sins that have hurt the Church so deeply, especially in our most vulnerable members. He especially ask forgiveness for the failings of those who have held positions of leadership in the Church. After much prayerful discernment, and bearing consciously the burden of anger and shame accumulated over the last 75 years, the Archdio-cese makes this report praying that those who are suffering will be able to hear this as a sincere apology.

The report will be immediately available on the webpage of the archdiocese at: archsa.org.
