A MOONCAKE FESTIVAL TO REMEMBER

Rtn. Ken Agojo

On the crowd, there are some new to MOONCAKE FESTIVAL. For instance, I, Rtn. Jay Datuin and even Cong. BH! We didntoknow how happy the game is until we experienced it. It’s a fun night, with the luck and the dice game!

There were three table wherein the dice area is situated and there were three other tables where the prices were displayed. It was full of prizes. I didn’t know that its calculated as well.

CP Gary Ting, our Charter President invited some friends in Rotary and we were happy to be with them. Among them are PDG Dan Espinosa, CP Lyndon Wong, our former AGR Richard Ngo, some other Past Presidents from other clubs. It was very amazing on the efforts given by our beloved CP Gary. Primary intention: Keep RC Pag-Asa on fire, in love for Rotary, and relinquish co-fellow Rotarians.

I am looking forward toplay the dice game againand am looking forward onlaughing and feeling theexcitement on coming mid-autumn festival! Butnonetheless, I must notforget, friendship in Rotaryis important. Happened at Sep 24, 2015

Platelet, People and Play

Sepetember was a blast of activities! And I pointed three P’s for this particular time-frame:

PLATELET

In coordination with Red Cross, PP Joe Montenegro was successful

on leading the group on gathering blood donations and we know

how significant blood donation is! Thanks for the GIST personnel,

volunteers, co-partner Rotary Clubs and many many more!

PEOPLE

There was a gift of time given by Rotarians spending time on

meeting people, for a cause. One is the END TB INFO DRIVE

which has been launched by CP Irene and by PP Doc Jess Lim.

Second, the Inter-Club Mission was organized thru the efforts of

RC Pag-Asa led by World Class President Malou Lapuz together with

the efforts of other clubs. Thanks to the donors and sponsors. To

name a few, many thanks to RC COLA, Kenika Enterprises, Cong

Bernadette Herrera and many others

PLAY

To balance all these from the work, there is PLAY giving Rotarians

time to laugh and enjoy. Thanks for the relentless effort of CP Gary.

Thanks to those who enjoyed with us!

ROTARY WORLD INTERNATIONAL SCENE

Nigeria declared polio-free, removed from endemic list

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on 25 September

that Nigeria is now polio-free and has been officially removed from the

list of countries where polio is endemic. It’s been 14 months since any

cases of polio caused by the wild virus have been detected there.

With Nigeria’s historic achievement, polio remains endemic in only

two countries: Afghanistan and Pakistan. That means transmission of the

virus has never been stopped there.

Nigeria was the last country in Africa where polio was endemic. The

continent celebrated its own first full year without the disease on 11

August. Once three years have passed without a case in WHO’s entire

African region, officials will certify polio eradicated there.

“Rotary congratulates Nigeria on its tremendous accomplishment in

stopping polio,” says RI President K.R. Ravindran. “On behalf of the

entire Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), we thank volunteers,

health workers, and parents in communities across Nigeria for their

tireless commitment to ensuring every last child is protected against this

devastating disease. In the months ahead, their dedication will remain as

important as ever, as we work to keep Nigeria polio-free and to eliminate

polio from its final strongholds in Pakistan and Afghanistan.”

Nigeria’s success is the result of several sustained efforts, including

domestic and international financing, the commitment of thousands of

health workers, and new strategies that reached children who had not

previously been immunized because of a lack of security in the country’s

northern states.

WHAT A WONDERFUL TURN AROUND

A month ago the attendance record of the club members for their regular

meetings was certainly anaemic. It was pathetic to see only some struggling

souls trying to carry the fight for the club and for its deserving beneficiaries

and refusing to quit.

However, after a month when CP Gary arrived he was able to perk up the

attendance record of the club by holding the mooncake festival. It was indeed

a sight to behold with many members and officers of the club as well as

officers from the district and from the other clubs lapping it up and enjoying

the event with gusto. That one memorable occasion changed it all because it

was like a vitamin shot infused directly on the blood of every member of the

club.

Not yet done, President Malou a week later conducted a successful

medical, dental and even legal mission at San Pedro 9 in Bagbag,

Novaliches, Quezon City ably supported by the other clubs and her world

class Presidents. It was a smashing success if gauged by the numbers of the

patients and the Rotarians who attended said mission.

Without doubt, RC Pag-asa, Quezon City will remain a strong and vibrant

club if at all its members will only corroborate with each other and set aside

their differences in order to work for the best interest of the club. Hopefully,

President Malou will exert utmost efforts to lead the club and try her best to

attend the meeting on time. What do you think Pag-asians?
