John Hope Senior Executive and Strategist John Hope is a senior executive level leader with unique management and strategist skills derived from parallel civilian and military careers and an extensive educational background. He has worked concurrently in both the Private Sector and in the U.S. Military in a series of demanding Joint and Interagency Command and Staff positions. Hope most recently served as the Director of OperationsAfghanistan for the Task Force for Business and Stability Operations, a custom civilmilitary initiative focused on economic stabilization through direct foreign investment, support to business creation and growth, and the training of Afghan Ministry personnel, business managers and entrepreneurs. Prior to leading TFBSO efforts, he served as one of 29 Fellows on the Chief of Staff of the Army Strategic Studies Group, tasked by GEN Ray Odierno with “Imagining a Profoundly Different Army in 2030 and Beyond,” and presenting written recommendations for funding and implementation of next generations’ capabilities. After 9/11, Hope worked in a series of critical leadership positions due to his diverse background and capabilities. He served under the Joint Enabling Capabilities Command as Director of Reserve Affairs providing personnel from all services in support of Combatant Commands; as the European Command Liaison to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID); and as the Battalion Commander for a deployed Civil Affairs unit. He also served in Anbar, Iraq under 2 nd Marine Division as the Team Leader of a Civil Affairs Planning Team, with his focus on the rehabilitation of state owned industries. In addition, Hope spent a year as VP of small business providing industrial/residential emergency power generation, returning it to profitability. Through all of these, he gained deep insights into solving complex challenges of organizational management, integration and alignment. Prior to 9/11, Hope started and ran a new office as an Investment Representative for Edward Jones, producing revenues in the top 10% of all new branch offices. He also worked for Steelcase, of Grand Rapids Michigan as the Central Area Wood Products Manager, as a District Manager for Worldwide Strategic Alliance accounts, and had major dealer responsibilities for sales, marketing and training in Chicago, IL. He also worked several years in the Dealer Distribution network as VP of a major Steelcase dealership in Milwaukee, WI, and as President/Owner of a dealership in Syracuse, NY. Hope is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and holds Master’s Degrees in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College and in Military History from Norwich University. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the Marine Corps Command and General Staff College. He is published via the Strategic Studies Group for his work on Regionally Aligned Forces.
