Celebrating a Century of AchievementTAPPI’s 100th Year will be a year-long series of outreach events and educational offerings showcasing the proud history and promising future of the global pulp, paper, packaging and related industries. The Centennial Celebration is a once-in-a-lifetime event that will expand public awareness, foster further connection, and provide outstanding opportunities for collaboration. Goals for the Centennial Celebration are:

• To reCognize the achievements of those who built our industry, and to inspire those who seek to build its future.

• To CeleBrATe the contributions of the pulp, paper, and packaging industries to human culture, commerce, health, and social advancement.

Century of Achievement: Each day, this dedicated website’s special calen-dar will celebrate a person or product that has advanced the forest products industry, focusing attention on the pa-per and packaging products that we use every day, the people who created them, and the producers and suppliers who make it all possible. Prominent banner ad positions will also be available.

In February 1915, thirty-five visionary industrialists met and formed the Technical Session of the American Paper and Pulp Association for the purpose of exchanging views and mutual knowledge and to advance the art of papermaking. By September, their number had swelled to 125. The group voted to become an autonomous body with a new name: the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry – TAPPI was born!

TAPPI’s growth and success were startling. Our members advanced the industry through knowledge sharing, creating thousands of technical articles, innovative research, definitive conferences and detailed courses. The people who generously shared their time and talent to build TAPPI – like those who sustain it today – came from every pulp, paper, packaging producer and supplier company from around the world.

History

A major component of the Centennial Celebration is public outreach. Our industry has a great story to tell and this is an outstanding opportunity to share it with the world-at-large.

Because this remarkable story can’t be told without including the contributions of producers and suppliers alike, we’ve created numerous opportunities for you and your company to be a part of the celebration.

Activities: Local TAPPI and PIMA sections, student chapters, TAPPI Divi-sions, Committees, and Volunteers will all come together to participate and produce their own events to commemorate the 100 Year Anniversary. These will offer localized sponsor opportunities, and will be highlighted on the TAPPI 2015 Calendar.

student Competition: To help bring the celebration into schools and communities, the Centennial Student Competition will get them excited about joining our industry, impart knowledge about our industry, and develop student’s curiosity in the paper and packaging industry. The Student Competition provides marketing opportunities and exposure at the awards celebration. This is an opportunity for companies to build brand awareness with the next generation of employees, consumers, and industry leaders.

Coffee Table Book: This beautifully-printed book, “Celebrating a Century of Achievement,” will serve as an enduring legacy for this auspicious occasion. Because it is people – our members – who make TAPPI such a great organization, the book will spotlight the personal stories behind the innovations and technical achievements that have advanced our industry. This is a rare opportunity for all companies in our sector to share the human stories behind their best products and processes. In addition, companies will be able to purchase commemorative anniversary advertisements – a high-visibility show of support.

Centennial Celebration gala: The year-long celebration will culminate at a Gala during the Centennial Celebration in April 2015; spotlighting members and contributing companies will be an important part of the evening. Festivities will highlight some of TAPPI’s best and brightest volunteers, recognition of TAPPI’s sister associations, the opening of a time capsule, and distribution of commemorative items. Tables of eight will be available at the Gala for your company and customers. Additional opportunities for recognition will be available in banners and signage to thank our industry supporters.

TAPPI Journal (TJ): A widely recognized and highly respected source of the latest peer-reviewed research and insights into the global pulp, paper, packaging and related industries. For more than 90 years, TJ has been a preferred resource, offering the most current and relevant research from our academic community in an interactive, online monthly edition, accompanied by an end-of-the year print summary containing abstracts of each paper printed during the year.
