Obituary Johnny Mathis, 53 of Charlotte, passed away on February 16, 2015, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville. Johnny was born in Charlotte, son of the late Elbert Mathis and Shirley Ryce, on Au-gust 29, 1961. He was a 1979 graduate of Olympic High School and was an All-star basketball player. Johnny had an awesome sense of humor and compas-sion for others. He will be missed by our family. He is survived by his loving mother, Shirley Ryce, son Desmond Tillman; brother Charles Mathis (Sarah) sisters; Diane Mathis Kee, Tamara Mathis Baker (William) Joyce Mathis Wright (Keith), Step-brother Angelo Anthony (Susie) of Mt. Holly, N.C., grandchildren Amarle' and Amonie Heligh-Tillman, also survived by one niece April Baker, and nephews Christopher Kee, Burrell Baker, Brandon Mathis and Jonathan Mathis all of Charlotte. Also surviving are aunts Geneva Simpson of Charlotte, Joyce Wallington of Forest City N.C, Ruby Freeman of Forest City N.C., Nancy Houston of Chattanooga Tennessee, Ruby Bonner of Shelby N.C. Rebecca Mathis of Charlotte and two great nephews Kaiden Kee and Tyler Baker both of Charlotte. A host of other family . Special thanks to Levine & Dickson Hospice House for the loving and compassionate care given to Johnny and the family.
