HoneysucklesThe historic village of Wittersham is set in an area of outstanding beauty in the heart of Kent. The Street is renowned for its charming 12th century church and its variety of historic dwellings dating from the 14th to 19th Centuries, The Street has been designated a conservation area.

Wittersham is a friendly village with a host of activities taking place in its village hall. Its primary school is consistently marked as “Outstanding” in its Ofsted reports. There is a fine village shop and an award-winning public house. The village is conveniently located close to Tenterden, whose High Street ranks amongst one of the most attractive in the country. Rye, an utterly delightful historic harbour town is also close by.

Wittersham is a village from which to explore this stunning area, whether it is trips to the coast, walking, visiting the local vineyard, or dining in one of the many and varied restaurants.

Road and rail links are exceptional. There is a choice of stations from which to commute. Ashford, convenient for access to the continent, also provides a fast commuter journey into Charing Cross, which typically takes only thirty-five minutes. “When we saw this house we knew it was for us. An “untouched” 1930’s style cottage, in a unique village setting, with outstanding views of the countryside.”*

SITUATION Over three years ago, the present owners were thrilled to discover an ‘untouched’, well-constructed 1930s cottage style bungalow, nicely positioned along The Street. They recognised its potential and have undertaken a meticulous and highly sympathetic architect designed refurbishment. “From the front we see the village church, woodland and historic houses, at the back we have a lovely sunny secluded garden.”

DESCRIPTIONThe refurbishment, carried out to an exceptionally high standard, is contemporary whilst respecting its classic 1930s cottage style. By utilising the roof space, they have added two double bedrooms, both with en-suites. The third double bedroom is on the ground floor, again with its own facilities, ideal when there are overnight guests. One of the rooms with its art deco style open fire is used as a study, but easily converts into a cosy fourth double bedroom. “Family and friends love sleeping downstairs because the Jack and Jill doors means they have their own en-suite shower room and total privacy.” The main living/dining area has been designed to take full advantage of the south facing garden. The spacious sitting room features a wood burning fire and large bi-folding doors, which open onto the patio and the cottage garden beyond. Double doors lead to a beautifully designed kitchen with French doors to the garden. The property’s open flow is perfect for when the owners entertain friends and family.

Whilst the owners chose to have two double bedrooms upstairs there is scope for two further bedrooms subject to the usual planning permission. “Upstairs, the unusual lines of the ceilings makes the bedrooms and en suites feel very cottagey and the views are spectacular.”
