Homework: Fashion Design, Urban Camouflage Fashion Illustrations: (2-Day) Day 1) Watercolor of your Garment In The Round Using watercolor paint and graphite pencil on watercolor paper, first sketch 3 croquis that each show a separate view of your garment (front, side, back) so that the viewer can experience the garment in-the-round. It may be helpful to have someone photograph you wearing your garment from three different views as a reference. All 3 croquis should be the same size. The figures must be complete (head, hands and feet), but they do not have to show details such as the eyes or nose. It is up to you whether or not you choose to use the 8-head human form or 9-head fashion figure. Then using watercolors, paint the color and texture of your garment into your 3 sketches. Homework: Complete the 3 painted croquis and bring them with you to class. Day 2) Fashion Illustration Collage First choose one of the two formats below for your fashion illustration/s: 1, large 11 x 17” inch panel will all three croquis composed in one environment 3, small 8.5 x 11” inch panels with one croquis composed on each panel. Your 3 panels should feel cohesive as a grouping. Then choose to either: Scan and digitally collage/photomontage your fashion illustration/s Hand cut and mixed media collage your fashion illustration/s The goal is to place your croquis into an environment from which the garment was inspired. Your environment/s can be literal and perspectival (like the photo below) or fantasy-like mixed media backdrops (like the mixed media collages on the next page), but they should inform the viewer of the meaning/inspiration behind the garment and tell a narrative story in itself.
