HSW‐210Z Z‐Wave Dimmer Module 

  

Introduction  The HSW‐210Z  lets you control  the on/off status and dimness of a  light wirelessly.  It can also connect with your legacy wall switch for local control.

Glossary  

Inclusion  Add a Z‐Wave device to the network.  

Exclusion  Delete a Z‐Wave device from the network.  

Association Assign the connection between the controlling device and the device being controlled. Example: a button on the controller vs a group of light. 

Remove To take a device out of a group, scene or association group while that device still exists in the same Z‐Wave network. 

Z‐Wave Network  

A collection of Z‐Wave devices controlled by primary and secondary controllers operating on the same system. A Z‐Wave network has its own unique ID code so that controllers not in the network cannot control the system.  

Primary Controller 

The first controller used to set up your devices and network. Only the Primary Controller can be used to include or delete devices for Z‐Wave network. It is recommended that you mark the primary controller for each network to facilitate future maintenance.  

Secondary Controller 

A controller containing network information about other devices within the network and is used for controlling devices. Secondary controllers are created from the Primary Controller and cannot include or delete modules to the network.  

Static Controller 

A Z‐Wave controller at fixed location.  It can always reach to all devices in Z‐Wave network and can act as Primary or Secondary Controller. A Static Controller can be configured as Static Update Controller (SUC) or Static Update Controller ID Server (SIS). 

SIS In a Z‐Wave network, the SIS is the primary controller. If a SIS is present, all other controllers (such as HSK‐100Zs) will become Inclusion Controller, which can add or remove devices on the primary controller’s behalf. If not, then only the primary controller can do so. 

Inclusion Controller 

A controller containing network information about other devices within the network and is used for controlling devices. Inclusion controllers are created from the Primary Controller in a SIS enabled Z‐Wave network. Inclusion Controller has the ability to add and remove devices from the network.  

Scene A collection of Z‐Wave devices configured to turn to a specific level, setting, mode, or perform an operation. Scenes are usually activated by a controller, timed event, or specific conditions.

injury,  death,  or  property  damage  or  loss.  If  you  are  unsure  or  uncomfortable  about  performing  this installation, please consult a qualified electrician. 

3. Damp environment, such as washroom or bathroom, is not suitable for installing the device. 4. HomeScenario  is  NOT  liable  for  any  damaged  incurred  with  incorrect  installation  and misuse  of  this 

device.  Installation  1. Turn OFF power by switching off the circuit breaker or removing the fuse and test that power is off before 

wiring! 2. Ensure the module capacity matches the load requirements.  3. You have two ways of installation: 

a) Wall  Installation:  See  Figure  1.  Connect  it  with  your  existing  dimmer,  please  see  below Wiring Diagrams. 

b) Ceiling  Installation:  See  Figure  2.  Fix  a mounting  tab  to  the Module.  In  such  case,  you  can  still connect the Module with your existing dimmer, or replace the dimmer and no longer use it, please see below Wiring Diagrams. 

4. Reapply power to the circuit at fuse box or circuit breaker to test the system carefully, if the Indicator light on  the Build‐in Module  is  lit  for  several  seconds  and  then  go out,  it means  the  installation  is  in  good condition. 

5. Turn OFF the power again. 6. For Wall  Installation:  Insert your switch together with the Build‐in Module  into switch box being careful 

not to pinch or crush wires, and secure it with screws. For Ceiling Installation: Install the Module on your ceiling with screws. 

7. Reapply power to the circuit at fuse box or circuit breaker.

 Please note:  Brown wire  refers  to Live  IN,  red wire  refers  to Live OUT, blue wire  refers  to Neutral, and black 

wire refers to connecting with switch.

 Please note: Brown wire refers to Live IN, red wire refers to Live OUT, blue wire refers to Neutral. In such case, 

you do not need to use the two black wires, please leave them capped with terminal blocks.

Include A Remote Build‐in Module to Z‐Wave™ Network  Before using the HSW‐210Z, you have to add it to a Z‐Wave™ enabled controller.  1. Refer to above manual to connect the wiring properly. 2. Refer to the instruction of your Z‐Wave™ controller for details, check how to include a Z‐Wave™ enabled device to the controller, and then operate it to make the controller wait for node information from the module. 

3. When prompted by  your  controller,  tap  your  switch  to  turn on  / off  the  appliance or press  and  release  the Setting button of the HSW‐210Z.   Warning: If you press and release the Setting button, please be careful of Risk of Electric Shock. 

 4. Then your controller should indicate that the action is successful. Otherwise, please repeat the above procedure. 5. Once the HSW‐210Z is included to the Z‐Wave™ network successfully, you can control it as you wish.  Exclude The Remote Build‐in Module from Z‐Wave™ Network  If you want to exclude the module from the network, please check following details.  1. Refer to the instruction of your Z‐Wave™ controller for details, check how to exclude a Z‐Wave™ enabled device from the controller, and then operate it to make the controller wait for node information from the module. 

2. When prompted by  your  controller,  tap  your  switch  to  turn on  / off  the appliance, or press and  release  the Setting button of the module.   Warning: If you press and release the Setting button, please be careful of Risk of Electric Shock. 

 3. Then your controller should indicate that the action is successful. Otherwise, please repeat the above procedure.  Basic Operation   Local control: 

 After  installing the HSW‐210Z in good condition, you can tap your existing dimmer to turn on / off the connected appliance.   Wireless control: 

 After  including the HSW‐210Z to controller successfully, you can control the connected appliance. Please refer to your controller’s instructions for details.  1. Press appropriate “ON” button of your controller, the connected appliance will be turned ON. 2. Press appropriate “OFF” button of your controller, the connected appliance will be turned OFF.

Other Functions  1. Act as repeater The HSW‐210Z can act as a wireless repeater to insure that commands intended for another device in the network are received. This is useful to enhance the coverage of the Z‐Wave™ network.   2. All ON / All OFF The  HSW‐210Z  can  be  included  into  a  Group,  and  respond  to  All  ON  /  All  OFF  commands.  Please  check  the controller’s instructions for details.  Reminders   This device  is using a  radio  signal  that passes  through walls, windows  and doors. The  range  is  strongly 

influenced by local conditions such as large metal objects, house wiring, concrete, furniture, refrigerators, microwaves and similar items. On average, the indoor range is approximately 30 metres. 

  Please check the  load for the module. Connecting  incorrect equipment may cause defects, a short circuit 

and fire.   Do not expose this product to excessive heat, direct sunlight or moisture.  

  Do not attempt to repair this product. If the product  is damaged or  if you are  in doubt about the proper 

operation, take the product back to the place of purchase.    Do not use the product in damp areas. Clean the device with a clean cloth.  

  WARRANTY  Limited One (1) Year Warranty This warranty does not cover or apply to: (a) damage to the product due to misuse, mishandling, and abuse, (b) products not used in accordance with manufacturer's instructions or recommendations, (c) product not assembled or installed according to manufacturer's instructions, (d) normal wear and tear, (e) wearing of the cover do to improper installation of cover and goods (f) damage to the contents of the shelter, (g) permits required due to zoning issues, (h) damage that has occurred during shipping, (i) acts of God. In addition consequential damage and incidental damages, such as damage to persons or property are not coverable under this warranty, and you should refer to your homeowner's insurance policy as with any other outside structure. Note: Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, and in those cases these limitations do not apply.

RISK OF BURNS  Exercise extreme caution when using Z‐Wave devices to control appliances. Operation of the Z‐Wave device may be in a different room then the controlled appliances, also an unintentional activation may occur if the wrong button on the remote is pressed. Z‐Wave devices may automatically be powered on due to timed event programming. Depending upon the appliance, these unattended or unintentional operations could possible result in a hazardous condition.
