What is the definition of being homeless?

• Homelessness does not just describe people sleeping on the streets. It can happen to anyone, for any number of reasons. Even if there is a roof over their head, they may still be homeless.

• People may be homeless if they are:• Sleeping on the streets• Staying with friends or family • Staying in a hostel • Staying in a bed and breakfast • Living in very overcrowded conditions • At risk of violence if they stay in own their home • Living in poor conditions that are damaging their health • Living in a house that is unsuitable for them.

Why are people homeless? • They are homeless if they have nowhere to live because: • They are afraid to go home because someone living there has been violent to

them, or has made a threat of violence which they are likely to carry out• They do not have permission to live where they are staying - for example, if

you are living with friends or relatives and they have told them to leave• They have nowhere where they can live together with all the people who

normally live with them or wish to live with them• They have a home but they cannot gain access to it - for example, because

they have been illegally evicted• Their landlord has taken them to court and the date by which the court has

said they have to leave has passed• Their home is a caravan or a boat and they have nowhere that they can

legally park it or moor it

Steve Huff is a photographer in America who did a photography project between 2006- 2008 on Homeless people. He was inspired to do this project after a year of going past a few offering help, giving them food and or blankets, he then decided to document his actions in Pheonix with the homeless on a day to day basis.Instead of just photographing the homeless people he'd sit down, speak to them find out their stories as to how they have ended up on the streets, in effect getting a feel to how they feel. To earn their trust he'd buy them food or pay for shelter for the night in exchange they would allow him to take their photos. He discovered that living on the streets had actually caused a few people to unfortunately have a mental illness.

After the project this is what he's had to say- “It was a learning experience for me and I am glad I took on this project. Instead of walking by and staring and sniping photos which is disrespectful I took my time to get to know each and every one of the people below and this is their story.”The media he used was black and white film which was processed in his laundry room at home.He photographed men and women living on the streets and has posted their story onto his blog, essentially giving them a voice for the public to read and in a way try not to judge others who are living on the street, get to know their story first because it isn't always due to an addiction.

Artists that look at homelessness Stephen Wright's street photography

“This young homeless girl was blowing a penny whistle outside the old Odeon cinema. She was sat on the floor with her dog by her side. I grabbed this shot of her, then gave her a few pounds and bought her a hot coffee afterwards”

Definition: Feminism Women protesting about political rights, social rights and equality with men. With the feminist group fighting for rights on laws such as, domestic violence, equal pay, sexual harassment etc The feminism activists who agreed with these rights also believed they can do all the jobs a man would be able to do if not better. An example of a feminist activist is the well known Florence Nightingale, known for being a nurse she helped the injured soldiers during the Crimean war in 1853-1856.

Final idea - ProstitutionOne of the main issues which effected our group was the fact that there were a lot of females, of all ages, who were homelessness. I decided to research into this and found that most definitely younger girls would turn to prostitution to get a small amount of money together, which could go towards drugs, alcohol or even just somewhere to stay.Through research on facts and, figures concerning teenage prostitution.
