Sheltered Homelessness
Sheltered homelessness refers to the state of living in emergency shelters and transitional housing; unsheltered homeless individuals reside in places not intended for habitation, like parks and sidewalks.
Of the unsheltered individuals, the population is predominantly male: 17 percent are veterans and a third possess some form of college experience; many of the individuals suffer from substance abuse or a severe mental disorder.
