Homelessness in Greece has only recently been understood as s social policy
problem, mostly due to the escalating number of homeless people in the
country. Despite political announcements and commitments until today there is no
provision on the issue. There is a severe lack of reliable official
data on housing and homelessness.

A third of Greeks live below the poverty line. According to the national statistics bureau, more than 3 million (27.7 %) were already on the edge of poverty in 2010 (at the start of the
crisis).
Since then, the conditions of life for millions have worsened immeasurably.Official jobless
