That night at the seminar, he thanked me for reminding him of the reason he put his home on the market in the first place – he needed to rejoin his family. I was struck by the wisdom of his final words to me before he turned to walk away. “I thought I was putting a price on my home. While I hold out– hoping to get a few more dollars, I am actually putting a value on my happiness.” He adjusted his asking price that night and sold it three days later. I guess I would have to say I’ve been in Real Estate my entire adult life. I have bought and sold a number of personal residences and have always enjoyed looking at houses, new developments, homes under construction, vacation properties, etc. I decided to take the advice of so many career counselors, life coaches and therapsists… and turn something I really enjoyed into a vocation. I’ve been licensed for a few years and am excited to be able to help people find their dream home in this amazing Valley where I grew up. What did you do before that? I was in the Washington apple industry for many years. Where were you born and where did you grow up? I was born in Dallas, Texas. My father was one of the original field merchandisers for the Washington Apple Commission. His first assignment was the region of the US that included Dallas. Dad returned to Wenatchee when I was four years old to become a founding partner of Welch Fruit Sales. So, I grew up here in Wenatchee. If you could blink your eyes and be anywhere in the world for a week, where would it be and why? That’s a tough one because I really like it here. So I’m going to reframe the question to include out of this world. I would like to spend a week aboard the Starship Enterprise for the express purpose of seeking out new life and new civilization, to boldy go where no man has gone before…With the always- available option of shifting into Warp Drive, I’m pretty sure Captain Kirk and his crew would be glad to take me for a spin and get me home within a week. Oh, as to the ‘why’ part of the question….as Spock would say, to ask why is illogical. What do you like about life in the Wenatchee Valley? I like being able to get to just about anything I need in 5 minutes, and once there, to find a zillion parking places and they’re free! I like the slow pace (lived in Seattle off and on for several years), less pressure, more time to chat, connect, relax. I really appreciate the fact that here you can ‘like” people in person, instead of clicking a button on Facebook. What tip would you offer to someone interested in buying or selling a home? Drive all over the place, through the areas in which you’re interested, get a feel for each neighborhood, notice how close it is to the goods and services you use on a regular basis. Imagine living in this or that house, and then ask yourself, “What will I do on Saturday morning if I live here”, for example. See yourself driving or walking to the nearest grocery store, restaurant, retail store, coffee shop and so on. Once you have a feel for where you want to be, really ask yourself if you’re ready to buy right now. If you have a house to sell first, consider what you would need to do in order for your home to be ready to sell, how long might it be on the market before a buyer comes along; if it sells how much cash will I have to buy my next home. I think it’s always best to sell first, because then you have the cash and the buying power to confidently search for your new home. Oh, and of course, commit to an agent who will support you wholeheartedly throughout this most important process. What is your favorite beverage? I really enjoy a really good cup of coffee. We are blessed here in the Valley to have a number of great coffee watering holes. I enjoy trying them all and just soaking in the ambiance of a cozy cafe’ with a good cup o’ Joe. I’ve also heard that there are a few great micro-breweries here in the area. I’ve been considering trying some of their fare as well What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? I enjoy running…not away from anything or to anything in particular…just running. It’s when I get some of my most inspiring ideas...just wish I could remember them all. I also love long walking chats with my amazing wife all over this Valley we call home. What is the most challenging/gratifying thing about being a Realtor? I won’t go into the challenging part because everyone’s job requires diligent efffort, but I would like to address the gratifying aspects of being a Realtor, because that is what I focus on and what keeps me energized. There is nothing quite like the joy I feel when handing over the house keys to clients, all of whom I consider friends...seeing the looks on their faces, knowing that here, in their new home, they will create a host of wonderful, cherished memories. Our founder [the KCM Founder], Steve Harney, occasionally asks to do a personal

post on what he sees as important to our industry. Today is one of those days.

– The KCM Crew

I recently gave a presentation about the current real estate market to a group

of home sellers in a city in the Northeast. That night, I explained to them that

home values in their area were about to be negatively impacted by a surge of

distressed properties entering their region over the next year. As I have often

found to be the case, the homeowners were very receptive; many felt that they

now had the information they needed to make a good decision with regard to

pricing their home to sell in this market.

After the class that night, several of the homeowners came up to me to privately

discuss their personal situations. One of these owners said something I will never

forget. He shared with me that he had come to a revelation that night.

This particular homeowner had put his home on the market with plans to move to

Florida, where his daughter and his infant grandson live. He missed his daughter

very much and missed his grandson even more. He hated every passing day that

he wasn’t able to “hold the baby in my arms and rock him to sleep”. That night at

the seminar, he thanked me for reminding him of the reason he put his home on

the market in the fi rst place – he needed to rejoin his family. I was struck by the

wisdom of his fi nal words to me before he turned to walk away.

“I thought I was putting a price on my home. While I hold out– hoping to get a few

more dollars, I am actually putting a value on my happiness.”

He adjusted his asking price that night and sold it three days later. Very soon, he

will be able to rock his grandson to sleep in his arms, both of them happy and

content.
