Welcome to Homebid MagazineA new way to help you find a home in Southampton Homebid gives you more choice about where you want to live. In the past you waited on the Housing list until a property was selected by the council. Now you decide which properties you would like to be considered for.
If you are currently waiting on the city council’s Housing List, you should have already received a letter about Homebid and how you can obtain a User Guide at Gateway. The User Guide contains all of the information that you need to know in order to “bid” for your new home.
Every fortnight SCC produces this free magazine, Homebid Magazine, distributed at various points across the city, which advertises almost all the available homes. You can look at the adverts and decide whether you want to be considered for any of the properties.
You express your interest in properties by making a bid for them. A summary of how you can bid for properties can be found in the Homebid User Guide which you can obtain at Gateway.
You will not be able to bid on properties in the Homebid Magazine until you have been accepted onto the Housing List.
If you would like to find out more about Homebid, you could contact the Allocations Advice Line on 023 8083 2777, Gateway Southampton at One Guildhall Square.
Further contact details can be found in the Homebid User Guide and also at www.southampton.gov.uk/homebid.

New for Homebid UsersUsers of the council’s Homebid service will notice some exciting changes (new facilities) to the website from March this year.
These changes mean that when you are using the Homebid website to search for a new home you will also be able to search for job vacancies in the city or wider area. You will also be able find information and details of organisations that can help you plan your way into training , skills opportunities or employment.
This new service is called Homebid Employment Connect service (or HECs) and as well as employment advice there are also pages on benefits advice and money matters, advice about childcare and health related information. This is the first phase of the new service and in coming months we will seek views from users on how useful they have found it so we can then plan how to make it more widely available.

Everyone needs good Neighbours When you move into your new home getting on with your neighbours can be key to enjoying where you live and help to stop neighbour disputes and anti social behaviour:
eight top tips to being a good neighbour:
1. Introduce yourself Simply saying hello and communicating in a friendly way when you see your neighbours can make a big difference.
You live close to each other so build up a relationship. Let them know that they can come to you if anything do annoys them and vice versa
2. consider your neighbours lifestyle Does your neighbour work nights or have small children. Having an awareness of these things can help you be
considerate to each others needs.
3. Be aware of any shared walls or floors Don’t place noisy speakers or appliances against a shared wall. If you live in an upstairs flat be aware of noise
transmitted through your floor.
4. control your pets If you have a dogs keep it on a lead in shared areas and clear up its mess.
5. Park considerately Only park in designated areas, don’t block your neighbours drive.
6. tell your neighbour if you are planning a party or a barbeque Let them know how to get hold of you if its too loud
7. Dispose of your rubbish correctly If you live in a flat make sure you put your rubbish bags straight in the designated bin. Don’t leave rubbish or any
items in shared areas.
8. Look after your neighbourhood Consider getting involved in any local resident groups and events. Report any crime /anti–social behaviour.
