8.6% in recent years • Expansion in the creative industries outstripped the UK

economy as a whole in 2011-12, where the figure was 0.7%.

• The gross value of creative industries in 2012 rose by 9.4%, with computing again making up a considerable proportion of this figure

• Exports of UK creative services overseas also rose • The UK's prodigious film, television and music industries

are a key part of the figures for both employment and overall value to the economy.

Creative Career Paths

• Often non-linear

• BAFTA Career Survey 2012: There is no single route into the industries. Indeed, half of our members started their professional lives in a different industry so it is little wonder that we present a confusing picture. (BAFTA)

• Self employment, freelancing,

entrepreneurialism very common – • Music, performing and visual arts had the

highest proportion of self-employed jobs. More than 7 out every 10 jobs in this group were self-employed (DCMS)

• Emphasise on CV

• The ability to use different software packages is

important across the sector and new entrants are

expected to have significant experience in this

area, especially Adobe Creative uite (Photoshop,

Illustrator, InDesign) (67%) and CAD design

software (25%).

• The Design Council
