the Art And science of home theAter. We believe engineering is a
creative endeavor. And a lifelong calling. It is the daily pursuit of perfection.
A constant battle against the constraints of materials, physics, often time itself.
For what our engineers are looking to achieve is phenomenal – in the pursuit
of purer sound, clearer images, they’re trying to mimic the most perfectly
engineered components of all: the human senses. Are we getting any closer?
Spend some time with the 006 Pioneer Elite® line. Experience high definition.
With the HD signal pure across audio and video, see what is possible. Plasmas
that display Blu-ray Disc® images at full resolution, or receivers and speakers that
work in tandem to treat you to pristine sound. Components designed to work
together seamlessly – get ready for home theater like you’ve never experienced
before. Then tell us if you think we’re getting closer. We think we are. Welcome.
Cinephiles, audiophiles, technophiles, rejoice.

A thousand words are not enough.
Solitary confinement. Pioneer
plasma displays are made of
millions of tiny phosphor-filled
cells and effectively isolating them
from each other is the way to a
more accurate picture. The Deep
Encased Cell Structure of a
PureVision display is what sets
our cells apart so there’s no light
leakage, only stunning images.
More contrast, please. Our
Crystal Emissive Layer – a thin
layer of magnesium – is inserted
between the plasma glass and
individual light cells, leading to
increased contrast and blacker
blacks. It allows cells to be
charged and discharged three
times faster, for greater light
emission and a brighter image.
Even easier to appreciate in
the light. Brighten up the room
and the Elite PureVision shines.
Pioneer’s First-Surface PRO
Color Filter is a layer of film that
replaces the exterior plasma
glass panel, which gives
accurate and vibrant color
reproduction. You’ll see it
working right before your eyes.
Say hello to the leading edge of plasma technology.
1080p is the highest resolution available today and
to offer it in a 50-inch monitor, Pioneer engineers
performed an incredible feat. Through their tireless
dedication to technology development, they
doubled the number of pixels in the panel to over
two million, creating astounding image quality.
It’s an achievement that remains unmatched in
the industry. This new panel has the ability to
up-convert lower-resolution signals for improved
HD detail, color accuracy and fast-moving image
clarity. Now you know why you can’t look away.

The Deep Encased Cell Structure of a Pioneer Elite
plasma isolates each plasma cell in its own four-
walled enclosure. Not only does the panel use new
and improved phosphors in each cell, this structure
ensures no light escapes into adjacent cells. The
resulting pure, concentrated beams create brighter,
truer images. To increase the contrast of these
images, a newly developed Crystal Emissive Layer
is inserted between the plasma glass and the cells.
This allows each cell to be charged and discharged
faster, for greater light emission. You’ll see blacker
blacks, but even so, lighter areas of the screen will
maintain their brightness. But we’re not done yet.
A Pioneer-exclusive Elite grade filter is then optically
bonded directly to the plasma glass. The First-
Surface Pro Color Filter minimizes the effects of
refracted and ambient light, providing vibrant color
reproduction even in a bright room.
Keeping signals pure. Pioneer’s
exclusive Pure Drive II technology
gives you the truest picture
possible. The drive keeps signals
entirely in the digital domain,
instead of switching between
analog and digital. This process
helps maintain all the depth and
detail of the original signal.
The many shades of gray.
Low-light situations can be
problematic for displays, as they
struggle to reproduce details
in dark images. Pioneer’s
Advanced Continuous Emission
IV Technology is able to
reproduce finer details in much
darker scenes.
See our true colors. Pioneer
has equipped each plasma
with improved red and blue
phosphors so you can enjoy an
increased color gamut and a
wider color space than ever
before. Intelligent Color auto-
detects scenes to adjust colors
to be more natural and accurate
for better color management.

built better inside out
Pure Drive II, a Pioneer exclusive, keeps video
signals entirely in the digital domain, never down-
converting them back and forth between analog
and digital. This process maintains the original
depth of the signal and contributes to finer
gradations, lower video noise and more natural
color reproduction. Picture quality gets a further
boost by the Advanced Continuous Emission IV
Technology integrated into Pure Drive II. It
enables Pioneer Elite® plasmas to accurately
reproduce an astounding 1,04 grayscale steps
for each color. Smoother gradations mean more
colors and finer details, even in low light. And you’ll
see Elite plasmas cleanly render fast-moving sport
images, action and video games without the digital
artifacts or motion problems of other flat displays.

Home Media Gallery pre-installed. Connect your

greAt receivers Are built from the
ground uP. And with the Elite® line, the innovations
begin with advanced construction techniques and
extend deep into the technology that goes into
the heart of every receiver.
brute force
Every Elite receiver has a ‘Digital Core Engine’ for
the highest-quality digital audio. Sharc-EX® chips
and 4-bit Freescale DSP Engines give Elite
receivers huge reserves of computing muscle. 4
bit D-A converters in every model further ensure
that the signal remains pure from input to output.
The Advanced Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration
System with Standing Wave Control puts this power
to good use. It evaluates the acoustic characteristics
of a room, neutralizes the sound field of the listening
space, and automatically detects and calibrates
all connected speakers. With THX Select ,™ Dolby
Digital® EX, DTS® Extended Surround, and DTS
96/4 decoding and advanced concert and cinema
modes, Elite receivers are well equipped and ready.
And it’s why they have the unqualified approval of
sound engineers at the legendary AIr Studios in
London.
mAke connections
HDMI inputs further enhance an Elite receiver’s
already formidable connectivity.
HDMI is an all-digital interface for high-quality audio
and video. A single cable replaces that familiar
tangle of wires and it’s all you need to move huge
amounts of data – like uncompressed HDTV signals
– at speeds of up to GBps. And HDMI is plug-
and-play ready, so connecting components is a
snap. With a dedicated terminal, your receiver is
ready for your iPod® digital music player. Use the
included cable or the optional IDK-0 iPod dock
(sold separately) to charge and control your iPod
through familiar onscreen menus. Even access to
XM-HDTM with Neural Sound is a snap with an XM
Connect-and-PlayTM antenna (subscription required
for service). And with Pioneer’s exclusive Sound
retriever technology, you’ll hear your music
through your system at near-CD quality.
designed to fit your life
With the Elite line, customization is the name of
the game. Add third-party Ir receivers and repeaters
and you have Multi-room Multi-Source capabilities.
Play a DVD in one room, a CD in another. Control
your components from anywhere in the house.
And there’s more – with the rS3C port and 1V
triggers you can build an entire home automation
system around your receiver.
For more information, visit www.pioneerelectronics.com
No one ever complains about over-engineering.
Plug and Party
Your Elite receiver is ready to connect to a
wide variety of sources. And it’s powerful enough
to bring your music, movies and games to life.
Before you settle down to enjoy yourself, cross
home theater off your to-do list.
Teach an old VCR new tricks.
Advanced as they may be, your
Elite receivers are considerate
enough to get along with all your
existing components. Input video
signals – composite, S-Video or
component – and your receiver’s
Digital Video Converter outputs
them through HDMI to a
compatible monitor or panel.
All together now. If you’ve ever
felt the bass out of sync, you’re
right. It is. Due to the way receivers
process low frequencies, the bass
follows five milliseconds later. With
a new bass management system,
Pioneer’s Phase Control
technology compensates for
this phase lag, significantly
improving multi-channel sound.
Park your iPod. And your XM
radio. Thanks to a dedicated iPod
terminal, your iPod player and
Elite receiver will get along fine.
Your iPod even charges up while
connected. Add an XM Connect-
and-Play™ antenna for access to
your XM-HD with Neural Sound.
View menus for both onscreen
and control them with your
remote.

The incredible sound of The eX series has been over 30
years in The making. The notes you hear now were first struck
in 1975, when Pioneer’s Technical Audio Device department developed the
TAD Pro Audio monitoring drivers, soon to be acknowledged as the ‘best
of the best’ in the industry. Not soon after, the legacy technology of these
drivers led to the TAD-M1, a speaker system widely acclaimed for its clarity,
detail, range and dynamics. The EX series followed in 2005, using many of
the technologies of the groundbreaking TAD-M1 driver. Engineered with
superior materials and obsessive attention to detail, EX speakers
are designed to do their job exceedingly well. And their aim, above all,
is to remove the barriers between you and the performance.
Hear it like the artist meant it.

The Power of TAD. The EX
series is built around Pioneer’s
outstanding TAD tweeter
and bass drivers. Crafted to
exacting standards, these drivers
consistently reproduce true-to-
life audio for movies and music.
Along the way, they’ve earned
an enviable reputation for
performance across the globe.
Be there. As far as reproducing
sound is concerned, Beryllium
is the perfect combination of
lightness and stiffness. This
mix makes it ideal for tweeter
diaphragms, reproducing
sound that’s pure, crisp and
breathtaking. For the EX series,
it’s the metal of choice.
You’re the center of attention.
For the best listening experience,
it’s paramount that you hear all
sounds – direct and reflected – at
the same time. The EX series uses
TAD’s exclusive Coherent Source
Transducer driver technology to
precisely control sound direction
at all frequencies. The result is
extremely smooth sound.

the heArt of the mAtter
Pioneer’s critically acclaimed TAD drivers are at
the core of the EX line. The tweeter diaphragm is
made with ultra-strong and light Beryllium for highly
efficient and solid performance. And unlike the
relatively small voice coils of regular bass drivers,
the EX series bass drivers are a massive 6mm.
This allows greater power handling and outstanding
dynamics, even at maximum volume. Coupled with
industrial-strength Neodymium magnets, both
drivers achieve outstanding detail and clarity,
smooth response and fluent, coherent sound.
greAt sound is in the detAils
EX series tweeters, mid-range and bass drivers
are designed in such a way that they allow the
unrestricted flow of air behind the cone and the
voice coil. The Air-flow Designed Basket Frame
may sound like a simple idea, but it prevents sound
distortion, even at very high power levels. The
‘Precision Curve’ of the EX series is another inno-
vation. Traditionally, speaker systems have always
had drivers on a flat front baffle. This means
sound from each speaker reaches the listener
at different times, leading to a muddier overall
sound. By placing the speakers on a curve,
Pioneer ensures different frequencies reach the
listener’s ears at the same time.
find bAlAnce
Vertical standing waves are the bane of every
speaker enclosure. Generated inside tall, floor-
standing cabinets, they’re extremely difficult to
control and are responsible for weak, uneven bass
response. or at least they were. Pioneer developed
the Acoustic Balance Drive (ABD) to tackle them
head-on. Using this unique acoustic simulation
software, the port and bass drivers of the EX series
are placed in the best position possible to minimize
the influence of standing waves. The ABD
completely cancels the first wave and significantly
reduces the influence of the second one. The result
is full, solid bass, with minimal distortion.

Science. Technology. Engineering. In perfect harmony.
Moving at the speed of sound.
From speaker drivers to
cabinets, every element
of the EX series is precisely
engineered to deliver
superlative sound.
Every masterpiece deserves a
frame to match. After putting
so much effort into our speakers,
we could hardly stop at the
cabinets. Crafted from multiple
layers of laminated MDF, 30mm
to 100mm thick, EX cabinets are
designed to remain inert and
contribute to the exceptional
clarity and focus of the sound.
United for better sound. Unlike
conventional speaker cones,
the unique one-piece cone and
center cap construction of the
EX series bass drivers adds
rigidity and mechanical integrity.
This eliminates unwanted cone
resonances, improves accuracy
and significantly enhances your
reputation as a bass monster.
A symbol of pride. The EX
series was rigorously tested at
the world-renowned AIR Studios
in London. Founded by
legendary producer Sir George
Martin, the studio’s aural
expertise is unmatched. We are
happy to have been deemed
worthy of their strict studio
replay standards.

High-Definition Television (HDTV): HDTV refers to a complete product/system with the following minimum performance attributes: Receiver: Receives ATSC terrestrial digital transmissions and decodes all ATSCTable 3 video formats. – Display Scanning Format: Has active vertical scanning lines of 720 progressive (720p), 1,080 interlaced (1,080i) or higher. – Aspect Ratio: Capable of displaying a 16:9 image. – Audio: Receives and reproduces, and/or outputs Dolby Digital audio (Consumer Electronics Association, August 2000). Plasma Display Systems display images consisting of hundreds of thousands of minute pixels (light emitting cells), and there is a possibility that some pixels may be inactive, flashing or continually illuminated. Plasma Display Systems are made of glass; be sure to secure it from damage from impact. Plasma Display Systems, while in use, may generate some functional sounds, for example: fan motor noise, and electrical circuit humming/glass panel buzzing. All phosphor-based display systems (CRT Television Systems - both direct view and projection televisions - as well as plasma display systems) may experience image retention, also known as burn-in if permanant. Recommended guidelines are as follows: – Do not display still images for long periods (such as fixed images from PC or TV game equipment, and/or time of day indicator or channel logo display). – Do not display content in the 4:3 aspect ratio (black or gray bars on left and right side of content) or letter-box content (black bars above and below of content) for extended periods of time, or use either of these viewing modes repeatedly within a short period of time. This Plasma Display System is equipped with multiple wide-screen viewing modes; use one of these screen modes to fill the entire screen with content. – Displaying dark images after displaying still images for a period of time may cause image retention. In most cases, the image retention can be corrected by displaying bright images for a similar period of time. However, if your Plasma Display System displays still images for additional long periods of time, image retention may be irreparable. Plasma Display Systems may have a negative effect on sound or images coming from AM radios, PCs or video-related products. Plasma Display Systems emit slight amounts of IR (Infrared Emission) through luminous discharge technology. This IR is not harmful to living organisms, but may interfere with the operation of remote controls for other equipment, or cause static in equipment using IR (such as cordless headphones or cordless microphones). *The TV Guide On Screen interactive program guide provides listings for cable-ready, cable box and digital cable services as well as over-the-air broadcast. It does not provide listings for satellite.
