Home Staging To-Do-List THE FOUR BASIC STEPS: 1. Uncover as much floor space, wall space and surface space as possible without ruining the ambiance of the home 2. Nothing should be placed on any surface that was not meant to have something placed on it 3. All traffic pathways must be 100% open and free of furniture or other items 4. Every room must have 100% definition (ex. The dining room should not be used as an office, etc.) CHECKLIST: ___Clean all carpets; or replace carpet ___Paint interior walls and touch up exterior paint ___Repaint boldly colored rooms with a neutral color ___Clean the front door; or give it a fresh coat of paint ___Repair or replace items obviously damaged or broken ___Make sure that all appliances (that stay with the home) are in working order ___Remove area rugs (except in the foyer) and bath rugs (with some exceptions) ___Remove slip covers on toilet seats, chairs, or other furniture (with some exceptions) ___Make sure that there are no more than 3 or 4 items on any surface ___De-clutter and neatly organize all shelves (i.e. book shelves, pantry, linen closet, etc.) ___Organize and de-clutter master bedroom closet and all other closets ___Organize kitchen cupboards, bathroom cabinets, garage and basement ___Put away items not used every day (especially in the kitchen and the bathrooms) ___Remove unnecessary and/or unwanted items to create a look of larger storage areas ___Replace or improve entryway lighting ___Use adequate light bulbs in all light fixtures ___Clean all windows, light fixtures, and walls ___Clean litter boxes daily; wash dog beds weekly ___Mitigate or discontinue strong odors (i.e. tobacco, air fresheners, etc.) ___Trim all trees above human height (other than evergreens) ___Trim all hedges below window sill height ___Clean up front and backyard (remove clutter, debris, toys, yard tools, etc) ___Take down all out-of-season decorations ___Maintain all lawn care and/or snow removal
