home solar system must know tips
TRANSCRIPT
Using the power of the sun is becoming increasingly attractive from an economic and environmental aspect. If you're going solar, you need to know the
components.
Solar Components
There are several main components of the solar panel system which have their own jargon.
1. Photovoltaic Cell - Or "P" "V" for short. This is the key piece of any solar platform. Known as a PV cell, it is typically a small cell containing a silicon
substance under glass. When the sun hits the cell, the silicon undergoes an electrical reaction that creates a charge. The charge is collected by small wires. Depending on the nature of the cell, each should produce roughly half a volt.
2. Solar Panel- the PV cell is typically about 4" square, the solar panel is usually an array of such cells. These cells are soldered and protected by glass housing to
let in the light but prevent damaging objects from hitting it.
3. Solar Power System - Connecting several solar panels together makes for sun to electricity conversion center of your solar system. Some solar farms have thousands of solar panels connected in series across acres of land. This can
provide extra electricity for one home or power cities
4. Orientation - One of the first things a person needs to do is determine the actual solar energy potential for the exact location of the solar panels. Not only is there specific solar potential for each square yard but the angle of the solar panel and direction are crucial factors. This angle of inclination and direction are perhaps the most important factors. A few degrees in the wrong direction
can cut your electricity dramatically.
5. Direct Current or Alternating Current - solar panels produce electricity as direct current. This can be stored in batteries as direct current. As you know there are virtually no devices in your home that use direct current for power.
Therefore, an electrical Inverter is used to transform the direct current into the useful alternating current you appliances need.
7. Inverter - A key component in a solar panel system. This cuts and twists the direct current from the solar panels to make it look and feel like typical AC
current. The AC current can then be used by your household appliances or sold back to the electricity company.
Of course there are many variables for each of these components. It is wise for you to ask a qualified professional to give you accurate recommendations for
your specific application before you purchase anything.
