DUNF Basics: Did you know? It’s the law!
Ohio Revised Code 901-19-05 Responsibilities of an Exhibition Sponsor (Mandatory Rule)
The records official shall reject any DUNF that is incomplete, illegible or unsigned. At the close of the exhibition, the records official shall turn over the DUNFs received by him to the sponsor.
Ohio Revised Code 901-19-06 DUNFs are required of the following species:
Market: Steer, Hog, Lamb, Dairy Steer, Goat, Poultry (by pen), Veal Calf
Lactating: Dairy Cattle, Dairy Goats No person shall submit an incomplete, illegible or unsigned
DUNF If the DUNF is incomplete, the exhibitor shall correct / complete
the form prior to : Receiving any prizes or awards for that exhibit; or Participating in the show or sale for the the DUNF was
completed.
Completed DUNFs must be submitted to the Ohio Department of Agriculture office in Reynoldsburg
White copies of DUNF must be reviewed by Records Official PRIOR to show and forwarded IMMEDIATELY to ODA following review. UPS envelopes and pre-paid labels are distributed with DUNF
boxes. Using these materials prevents delay in shipping / arrival to ODA.
In 2010, 17 fairs did not initially submit their DUNF forms.
Many fairs are not submitting forms in a timely manner.
Numerous forms are not complete, but it’s getting better… In 2009, there were over 4,000 incomplete forms. In 2010, there were approximately 600 unacceptable forms.
Improvement! Incomplete forms are returned to the Records Official and
respective OSUE office.
DUNF FORM: Things to look for…
The DUNF must be complete and legible. This includes exhibitor information, animal ID, and animal information. Exhibition Name and two-digit Fair Code must be completed.
If exhibitor participated in a QA program, or passed a QA qualifying test, the appropriate box must be checked.
If the animal has not been given a medication, or if has been given a medication for which the withdrawal has elapsed, the appropriate box must be checked.
If the animal has been given a medication, and the withdrawal time has not elapsed the Treatment Chart must be completed Treatment date Condition for which the animal was treated. Medication name (be specific) Amount given Route given (IM, IV, SQ, Oral) Instructed withdrawal (# of days)
If you have questions about withdrawals, call ODA! Date withdrawal is complete
Medication notes… If the medication is not over-the-counter (OTC), it must have been
prescribed by a veterinarian If the medication is OTC, but not labeled for the species being treated,
it must be prescribed by a veterinarian or it is illegal use of a medication!
If the animal was given a prescription medication, the veterinarian’s name and address must be listed below the treatment chart.
If the medication was not prescribed, it is illegal use of the medication!
Encourage… Exhibitors to have Valid Client Patient Relationship (VCPR) with their
local veterinarian. Exhibitors to ask questions. When in doubt, exhibitor / veterinarian is encouraged to contact ODA
for up-to-date withdrawals / indications. Product indications do change…
There were multiple instances during 2010 show season in which veterinarians administered an inappropriate medication or gave the incorrect withdrawal.
