Phonics
Day 1 Focus on key words they should know by the end of reception from last week. Ensure they can read them all and write them. Focus on those they cannot do and only a couple at a time. Recap new phase 5 sounds taught last week – ay, ou, ie . Show them the digraph or say the sound and get them to write the digraph and one word for each sound. For example: play, shout, pie.
Day 2 Introduce the sound ‘oy’ for ‘toy for a boy’. Get your child to write down the words ‘toy’ and ‘boy’ including sound buttons. Then give them other words to write in a list ensuring they put sound buttons underneath and sound back what they have written. This usually helps them to identify any mistakes in their writing and they can spot if the word does not sound right. Write a list of words such as:- toy, boy, enjoy, annoy, royal, joy
Day 3 Recap ‘oy’ quickly by showing them the digraph and getting them to say the correct sound.
Day 4 Introduce the ‘ea’ sound ‘ea cup of tea’

Day 1 If you have the book ‘Jack and the FlumFlum Tree’ please read it with
your child. Talk about the characters, setting and the problems that Jack faces
through the story. Being able to talk about the story is really important and to
recall key events and characters. You can listen to the story by using the link below
