SHOWCASES, EXHIBITIONS & HAPPENINGS

Transformation of Kidderminster into a temporary WWI Commemoration siteYou may wonder why there are large numbers of inflatable dogs in the sky. This is to commemorate over 20,000 dogs that served in WWI performing a range of jobs from messengers, sentries, rescuers and guard-dogs they played a vital role in the war effort. Space Pups is a unique installation provided by inflatable specialists Spacecadets never before seen outside a gallery environment.

Bollard poppy covers. There are a large number of bollards in Kidderminster and you will find they have all burst into bloom with poppies, we estimate around 3000.

These have been knitted by an army of volunteers, during the recent months, with wool donated by local people from all over Worcestershire. We would like to give huge thanks to Eira Roberts of waste2want who led the knitting charge, and especially to her recruits from Herons Park Nursing Home and Dementia Unit, The Shrubbery Care Home, Nightingales of Kidderminster, Hollyfields Care Home and Holmwood Care Centre who participated in poppy knitting workshops.

KAF would like to thank all the venues who acted as drop of points for wool around the County; you can see their names on our website and on information boards around the town.

Modern daily life is full of hectic stresses and strains. Everybody needs to take some time out, have a rest, share a moment and celebrate the simple things in life. Wet Picnic’s Tea Ladies sweep through the streets to supply an explosive and surreal teatime for everyone to enjoy! Your taste buds will be tingling at the sight of this eccentric ensemble who are as fabulous and fruity as the cake they eat. With tantalising tricks, trolley dancing, Austrian Milkmaids and a big fat cow, teatime is now the gateway to adventure, joy and release! So remember... No matter how tough things get, let’s be British, drink Tea and push through it together.

Questioning the norm of British theatre, and playing with their audiences at every turn, Time For Tea was made in as a commission from The British Council for the World Exposition in Shanghai, China, it’s great to have it in Kidderminster.

Two men recklessly attempt to confront the absurdity of war in just 35 minutes, using their bodies, their voices and the surrealist toolbox of DADAism. Playful, physical and blackly comedic, SLAPSTICK & SLAUGHTER examines how the barbaric chaos of World War One manifested itself in the nihilistic, nonsensical art that grew from it. This street theatre show splatters big ideas on a small canvas, exploring art’s reaction to the war’s wholesale destruction of lives, the old order and old hypocrisies and finding echoes in equally absurd modern conflicts

TV personality and singer Isla St Clair needs no introduction she’s teamed up with film maker Film maker Patrick King to present the ‘Eyes Front’ either side of a large movie screen. Live music and film footage combine in a nostalgic, poignant and humorous look at how those on the battlefield and those left at home used popular song and music to help them through. You don’t just get a background into the songs and their history, but a fascinating look into the world of documentary film-making. This rich mix of song and film, including funny outtakes and rare archive footage, makes for a light-hearted family show that is both informative and wonderfully entertaining.
