Family, Studio andModern Apartments

The Ranmoor Village is in one ofSheffield’s most popular suburbs.Campus and the city centre arejust ten minutes away by bus. Theatmosphere is very relaxed. It’s aclose-knit community of 1,100students from all over the world,including undergraduates,postgraduates and students withfamilies.

From international food evenings tofamily events, the activities at Ranmoorare organised by studentrepresentatives. You can give themyour ideas for things you'd like to do,visit or see. If you’d like to be moreinvolved, you could even be elected as astudent representative for the village.

You’ll be close to the lively studentareas of Broomhill and Ecclesall Road.You’ll find shops there with everythingyou need, as well as bars, cafés andrestaurants.

All our City and Central Campusaccommodation is in the area betweenthe city centre and campus. It’s veryclose to the engineering departments,the Management School, ComputerScience and others.

You don’t get as many organised socialevents and services in the city as you doin the Endcliffe or Ranmoor Villages. Butyou do get the city’s shops, cafés andrestaurants all close by. If you prefer todo your own thing, the city is for you.

FoodThere’s a wide variety of choice on campusand in the Student Villages. There will beplenty of chances to sample traditional Britishfood such as fish and chips, pie and peas andSunday lunch. As well as home cooked meals,you can get sandwiches, Barista coffees,smoothies and cakes. An eatwithUS card is agreat way to budget.

We provide for different religious and ethicalneeds. There are halal and vegetarian optionsand we support students during Ramadan.We use fresh, local produce and we’re arecognised Fairtrade University, which meanswe’re committed to promoting Fairtrade.

Choosing catered

• Catered accommodation is ideal if youdon’t like to cook, don’t want to do muchfood shopping and don’t want to budgetfor the majority of meals.

• You’ll get a £43.40 weekly food and drinkcontribution to spend in various cafés,restaurants, food outlets and coffeeshops.

• The £43.40 is included in your rent sothere’s no extra to pay.

• You’ll get an eatwithUS card with £43.40loaded onto it every week during termtime (vacations are not included).

• The weekly £43.40 covers the cost of yourbreakfast and one other meal each day –not all meals and snacks.

• If you don’t spend your £43.40 during theweek, it’ll be carried over.

• All catered rooms are in The EndcliffeVillage.

• You’ll have limited cooking facilities inyour accommodation. Kitchenettesinclude a microwave for heating upsnacks but aren’t suitable for preparingfull meals.

Types of room

Room with a sharedbathroomYour room comes with a single bed,wash basin, wardrobe, desk andchair. You have access to sharedbathroom facilities and WC. There’salso a kitchen or kitchenette with afridge, kettle and microwave.

En-suiteEn-suite rooms come with their ownshower room and WC so you havemore privacy. You share a kitchen orkitchenette and/or a living area withyour flatmates.

DeluxeDeluxe rooms have their own showerroom and WC, extra space and alarger bed. You share a kitchen andliving area with your flatmates.

Studio Studios are self-contained. They havetheir own kitchen facilities, livingarea, double bed, two desks,wardrobes and an en-suite showerroom and WC. Ideal if you’re astudent couple, or if you just wantmore space to yourself.

Once we receive your application, we’ll send you anacknowledgement email. If you’re an insurance offer holder,postgraduate or visiting student, we’ll also email you aconfirmation slip as part of your acknowledgement – keep thissafe as you’ll need it later on.

When you have met the conditions of your accepted offer, UCASwill automatically notify us of this and we will then process yourapplication for accommodation.

If you were an insurance offer holder, postgraduate or visitingstudent, and want to apply to live in University accommodation,you now need to send back the confirmation slip we sent you instep 3 before we can process your application. Once we have allocated you accommodation, we will email youwith details of which property you’ll be living in and how to viewyour contract online. In order to accept your contract, you willneed to pay a holding deposit of £150.00 and set up a paymentplan for your rent. If you don’t accept your contract by the datestated in your email, we will reallocate the room to someone else,so remember to make a note of the date. Make sure the emailaddress that you provide is one you check regularly, so we have away of getting in touch with you.

From mid-July, we begin toallocate accommodation.Unconditional offer holders andconfirmed postgraduates whomeet the terms of our guaranteeare the first to be allocated.

ORThe largest number of allocationstake place in august whenapplicants find out if they havemet conditions of their offer i.e.after ‘a’ Level results.

Deposits and payment methodsWhen you accept your contract, we ask you topay a damage deposit of £150. This is held untilthe end of your contract. Your rent is paid inthree instalments. The first instalment of rent willbe taken on 01 October 2012. For families, whosecontracts start in August, the first instalment ofrent will be taken on 31 August 2012.

Activities and eventsThere are lots of activities and events organisedto help you make friends and settle in. A smallsubscription charge for these events is added toyour first instalment of rent.

InternetInternet connection is free in all ouraccommodation.

Codes of practiceAll University-owned single-studentaccommodation complies with the Universities UKCode of Practice for the Management of StudentHousing. That means we have very clear policiesand procedures relating to health and safety,maintenance, student welfare and other issues.

Opal 2 is managed in partnership with a privatelandlord. Opal 2 is subject to the ANUK code, asimilar code for large private landlords.
