FIBRE COMPOSITION REGULATIONS

Please reference - Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011 – fibre names labelling and the marking of the

fibre composition of textile products

All bulk fabrics must be tested for fibre composition at a UKAS accredited 3rd party lab. For

continuity products, this test must be repeated at least once per year.

Fibre composition of blended fabrics MUST, BY UK LAW:

a. be listed with the highest percentage first and then in order according to next highest

percentage and so on e.g. 60% Cotton is listed before 25% Viscose which is listed before

15% Polyester.

60% Cotton

25% Viscose

15% Polyester

b. The total percentage of all fibres listed must always add up to 100%.

c. Always use whole rounded numbers. E.g. 60% not 59.5%.

Only legally recognized fibre definitions are permitted for use when stating the fibre composition

on the care label. See page 12-13 for textile generic name guideline details.

85 % (by mass) in the chain of an ester of a diol and

terephthalic acid.

25 Polyethylene Fibre formed of un-substituted aliphatic saturated

hydrocarbon linear macromolecules.

macromolecule where one carbon atom in two carries a

methyl side chain in an isotactic disposition and without

further substitution.

27 Polyurethane Fibre formed of linear macromolecules composed of chains

with the recurring urethane functional group (Do not state

as PU).
