Messenger Magazine *Copies of the Messenger Magazine (the official publication of the Church of the Brethren) are available in the church library and on the revolving rack in the lobby. Check it out! Articles in the March 2014 issue include:

*Checking the climate---women in ministry…At the Clergy Women’s Retreat, held in January, Cheryl Brumbaugh-Cayford spoke with several clergywomen about the current climate for women in ministry in the Church of the Brethren. *The centennial of a Brethren poet…William Stafford, one of America’s most celebrated poets, would have turned 100 in Janu-ary. But, in Brethren circles anyway, the 20th Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress was known not just for his poetry, but also as a fellow churchman and a conscientious objector. *Cleared for take-off-together…In his travels thus far as Bethany Seminary’s new president, Jeff Carter has encountered anew the vast differences in the Church of the Brethren---from Kansas to California, and from Minnesota to Arizona. But he also has noted a common thread that binds us together. *The irritating call to love one another…Tim Harvey, former An-nual Conference moderator and pastor, calls readers to engage in courageous discipleship, which, he says, sometimes means “just putting up with the person sitting on the pew across from us.”

MEN’S GROUPS *Men’s Morning in the café All men are invited to Men’s Morning in the Café on Saturday, April 12th and Saturday, April 26th. We gather in the church café from 7:00-8:15am for some refreshments, Bible study, discussion, and prayer. We are currently using the video series entitled “Authentic Manhood: A Man and His Story”. We hope that this time together will be an encouragement to you and your faith. If you have any questions about this, contact Scott Moyer or Pastor Jimm. *Men’s Breakfast Connection Men are invited to Men’s Breakfast Connection on Wednesday, April 9th and Wednesday, April 23rd. We meet at Lintia’s Restaurant from 6:00-7:00am to eat breakfast, enjoy fellowship, and discuss lessons from the “Authentic Manhood: A Man and His Design” video series. If you are interested in being part of this group, please contact Pastor Jimm at [email protected] or 665-4873.

Keeping our children safe here at East Fairview is priority number one when it comes to kids programming. Strengthening families & relationships, protecting church workers and reducing the risk of legal action are just a few of the addi-tional reasons we are beginning to implement background checks for those who work with kids ages 0-18. If you currently volunteer with children (i.e. nursery care, J.U.I.C.E. Night, VBS, etc.) you will be contacted in the upcoming weeks to submit information for a background check. It will take less than 10 minutes of your time to fill out the form. The form is streamlined and simple; the only information you may need to look up is your driver's license number. If there are any questions about this process, please feel free to contact Mandi Stoltzfus, Family Ministries Coordinator, at 203-1794 or [email protected]. Thank you to our current volunteers who provide warm, caring and stimulating environments for our kids! We couldn't do it without you.

2014 Show N’ Shine The 2014 Show N’ Shine will be held on Saturday, June 21st, rain or shine. Mark your calendars and plan to join to us. You can get an egg sandwich and check out the items at the Teen Central Yard Sale. Bring a car, classic, antique, street rod, tractor, motorcycle...any type of vehicle is welcome. Parking starts at 9am and the show runs from 10am-2pm. Goodie bags and dash plaques go to the first 100 vehicles. Call Steve or Sharon at 665-3536 to pre-register. There is no registration fee, but we do collect canned goods for the local food bank. Invite your friends and neighbors to come out for a fun day. Children’s activities start at 10:30am; games, crafts, story time, and of course the barrel express ride. Adults will be able to try the fan belt toss and answer some trivia questions. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and pulled pork sandwiches will be available for lunch. Of course we’ll be mixing up delicious milkshakes for a cool treat. Yard sale, car show, music, children’s activities, good food...sounds like fun to me! Highlight June 21st on your calendar and save the date for a church and community day. Don’t forget when you do spring cleaning to set aside some items to donate for the Teen Central yard sale. Drop off dates and times will be given at a later time. We will also be looking for donated baked goods and people to help with the food, children’s activities, parking, and handing out goodie bags. If you would be interested in any of these areas let us know. It takes a lot of people to have a successful event!

Hope you can join us! Thank you, Steve and Sharon

Spring Clean Up Day The ESM team is planning a clean up day on Saturday, April 26th. If you would be interested in spending a few hours doing yard work for our older members, please save the date. If you are someone who needs help with some trimming, mowing, limb cleanup type work, please contact the church office and we'll compile a list of the needs. More details will be coming in the weeks to come.

Anyone interested in playing softball this season, please call or text Greg Berkey at 201-5756. Practice will start in early April...if the snow ever stops.
