Today is an historical day in our new parish of the Holy Spirit as Bishop Zubik will be with us this weekend to in-stall our pastoral team. We are one of the newest parishes in the Diocese and I am sincerely grateful to all of you who have volunteered to make this weekend’s Masses really a celebration of our oneness in Christ. Dur-ing this Mass, we will once again have the opportunity to thank Fr. Bill as this will be his last weekend with us and to thank God and rejoice in the privilege of having a newly ordained join our pastoral team in the person of Fr. Brendan Dawson.

Fr. Brendan will officially begin his ministry in Holy Spirit Parish on Monday, July 15. Please join me in welcoming him and assisting him as one of the newest rookie priests in the Diocese! Meet Fr. Brendan:

My name is Father Brendan Dawson. I was ordained a priest at St. Paul Cathedral on June 29. Prior to entering seminary, I studied political science at the University of Pittsburgh, graduating in 2011. I entered seminary in 2012. During my 7 years of prepara-tion for ordination, I lived at St. Paul Seminary and took classes at Duquesne University before moving on to graduate studies at Theological College and the Catholic University of America in Washington DC. Fr. Anthony Sciarappa is also an alum of TC and CUA.

For many years, I have dreamed about becoming a priest and being able to bring the Sacraments to the people of the Church. Finally, that dream has become a reality! I am overjoyed and excited to get to work at the newly formed Holy Spirit Parish! I don’t know the area very well (I grew up in the North Hills) and travel-

ing between seven churches, the school, and other responsibilities will present certain challenges, I know that the Holy Spirit will guide each step that we take together.

In terms of additional biographical information, I have three younger sisters: Bridgette, Julia, & Catherine. I am from a big Irish Catholic family and am the first priest in my family. I grew up in West Deer Township in Northern Allegheny County. I’ve always been interested in politics and even considered pursuing a career in that before entering seminary. I’ve been blessed to have taken pilgrimages to Rome and the Holy Land as well as a mission trip to northern Alaska. Father Mac has been a good friend and role model to me over my years in semi-nary. I was able to make that mission trip to Alaska through his support and through the generosity of his late mother’s scholarship - the Alice McCaffrey Scholarship for Seminarians.

In this picture, I am giving Father Mac a First priestly blessing after my First Mass on June 30. I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with and for you; for the chance to grow into priesthood in Lawrence County.

God bless, Fr. Brendan Dawson

It is an awesome responsibility that you as parishioners share in fostering this newly ordained priest in his priesthood. Many of the experiences that he will have for the very first time will be in our midst. May these

experiences help to form him into a holy and tenacious priest of God!

God love you,

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!

We trust all of you have received your new Holy Spirit Parish offertory envelopes, and if not, please contact the parish office.

We would like to call your attention to an unexpected item regarding Parish Share. Most, but not all, of the former 7 parishes contracted with Our Sunday Visitor (OSV) who sent out the annual Parish Share pledge cards. Once a parishioner completed their pledge card the information was data-entered into what we call the PDS System. Monthly as parishioners contributed to Parish Share we would post the contribution to PDS for the Parish Share Fund. Every month the parish would send OSV what is called a “turn around” report reflecting payments parishioners made to Parish Share. We recently were advised that OSV did not convert the Parish Share data to the new PDS System for Holy Spirit Parish. However, not to worry, the parish still has all the contribution records, and they all will be reflected on your end of year contribution statement. The issue is to convert this data for Parish Share contributions through June 30, 2019, but OSV has advised us it will be quite costly. We have decided we are not going the route of paying a high amount for this conversion given we are half way through the year for Parish Share. Due to this change, parishioners will no longer receive from OSV a monthly reminder card that reflects their total pledge, amount paid, and balance owed. We ask that you simply use the Parish Share envelope in your offertory packets. Your Parish Share payments will be posted to your offertory record as in the past. We apologize for any inconvenience; however, we did not feel it was necessary to spend the extra money. Please know at any time you can contact the parish office to inquire on the amounts of any contributions you have made to our good parish.

Everyone 21+ (NO age limit) is invited to

come to our July meeting and listen to Fr.

Anthony speak both off the Altar and

Twitter. Come to

Ben Franklin's Taproom at 6 pm

on Thursday, July 18th, 2019.

It's their Rib Night! We will be in the "Party Room."

Loving isn't too difficult, right?

Many of us are surrounded by kind, lovely people trying to do the right thing. Indeed, to "love your neighbor as yourself" seems like it should be easy enough. Treat people like you would like to be treated. Bring the new neighbors some baked goods (normal and gluten-free, just in case). Chat with the bank teller about his holiday weekend. Write an occasional card to your sister "just because." There were probably varieties of these acts of kindness in Jesus' day. Perhaps substituting figs for cookies. But "exchange pleas-antries with the traveling cloth merchant" isn't the example Jesus gives.

"A man fell victim to robbers... they stripped him and beat him and went off leaving him half-dead." The righteous pass by the scene of the dying man. The hero of the story is the one on the margins of Jewish society, who perhaps would not have been welcomed, in other circumstances, by the man now in the ditch. His neighborly love causes him to halt his journey, to tend wounds, and to pay for the man's care out of his own savings. Are we interruptible? Are we attentive to the hurts of others? Are we generous with our money and possessions?

In the past few weeks, who has crossed your mind as some-one in need of help? Perhaps it's an acquaintance suffering from cancer. Maybe you were invited to donate or volun-teer to a local social cause, but it just won't stick in your mind (or schedule) to make it happen. The needs of people are many and varied. We can't help everyone, but God does place opportunities in our path for compassion and coura-geous love. This week, be "the one who treated him with mercy."

RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS

S o many times in my life, I have failed to start something because I had not yet adequately prepared. I would have

started working out or going for a jog, but I needed to get the right shoes. I would have started eating right if only I could find the time and money to buy the right foods. ...I would have, I would have, and I would have!

I know many people can relate. We offer up excuses for so many things. Sometimes we even get to the point where we do start some-thing, but by then, we have already lost so much time.

S ome of us are thinking about taking a stewardship way of life seriously, but we are just not ready yet. We would be

more generous if we can first get out of debt. We would give of our time, but we have to wait until the kids get older or until we fully research our options. The truth is, we don't have to be in any particular state of life or have any specific financial portfolio to start giving our very selves to God. God takes us as we are now. No resume needed. Why waste so much time thinking about getting started and becoming serious? Time is a gift given to all of us. As we think and prepare endlessly, we are practicing poor steward-ship. The time to start is today. Who wants to answer God one day at the gates of Heav-en saying, "I would have."?

An important aspect of the work of discipleship is not only in maintaining and deep-

ening your own relationship with Christ, but in helping others to become disciples.

One means for making disciples is through micro groups. A micro group is made

up of four people who come together to study and pray on a weekly basis for a peri-

od of twelve to eighteen months. Participating in a micro group will help you deep-

en your walk as a disciple and enable you to accompany others on their discipleship journey.

Anyone can be part of a micro group – every level of education and any age. There are no teacher/student

relationships in a micro group, but simply a mutual sharing of our Catholic faith. The only requirements are

that you desire to grow in your discipleship, want to help others to become a disciple of Christ, and will form

and lead a new micro group once your initial micro group has finished.

Imagine that we have ten people leading a micro group. By the end of the first year, we would have 40 peo-

ple formed to be disciples of Jesus Christ. At the end of year two, we would have 160 people – the end of

year three, 640 people – and in year four, 2,560 of our parishioners would be formed to be disciples of Jesus

Christ! This is powerful and exciting. The Apostles multiplied their disciples in very much the same way. If

you would like to know more about micro groups, please call the St. James the Apostle site, 724-964-8276.

The program is totally free of cost.

It’s been a long road and I’m sure there’s a long way to go, but what a great start! We’ve got a new

name, “Holy Spirit Parish”, and I know that the Holy Spirit has already been at work here! People are

working together in many different ways, building new friendships and helping each other! Our

church musicians have been working together and rehearsing for the Masses at the high school this

weekend. It’s been a joy to make music together!

The joint choirs will be singing a prelude entitled “We Are One”. How appropriate! It was written by

Chris DeSilva, who was born in Singapore and now resides in Los Angeles, California. It’s a very up-

beat contemporary Christian song and the choirs enjoy singing it. The refrain goes “We are one, one in the body, one in the spirit of our God. Here we become food for the hungry, drink for the thirsty at this table of love. By faith we are all made one.” The song is #913 in the blue Gather book

and I hope that at some point, all of the congregations of the seven worship sites can learn it!

Making music is a wonderful, unifying activity! Music directors, accompanists, choir members, youth

choir members, handbell, trumpet, flute and guitar players will be playing and singing together! All we

need now is YOUR voice! Let’s fill the New Castle school auditorium with songs of praise! Don’t be

shy! We need to join our hearts and voices together. WE ARE ONE!

is singing as one!

WHAT IS THE ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY AND WHO DO THEY HELP?

The mission of the St. Vincent de Paul Society is to serve local individuals

in need on a person-to-person level, visiting them in their homes when pos-

sible. Each individual who calls and asks for assistance talks with a mem-

ber of the Society and creates a plan to help the individual in their time of

need.

In 2018, the society gave financial assistance to more than 1000 local families in Lawrence

County for rent, utilities, or emergency food but the Society has also assisted neighbors in need

in other ways.

Worked at the Greater Pittsburg Food Bank with the Produce to People Program to assist

in the food distribution on the second Saturday of each and every month of the year in the

St. Vitus School Gym.

Organized and distributed gifts for community members who are residing in either assisted

living or nursing homes along with people who are not able to leave their homes through

the Angel Tree at Christmas, providing gifts at Christmas and palm crosses during Lent,

and some years providing Thanksgiving dinners delivered to individuals at their homes on

Thanksgiving Day.

Throughout the year members of the Society went to assisted living facilities and nursing

homes to help with Bingo, to recite the Rosary with residents, and assist the Priest with

Mass and distribution of Communion so that parish members who are unable to attend

Mass can participate in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. Members also reached out to

parishioners with scheduled surgeries offering to pray with and for them.

A $500 service scholarship is given each year to a young person who will be attending col-

lege in the fall to help defray some of their costs. This year we had 2 recipients, Addison

George and Verity Green.

In the coming months, please consider supporting the St Vincent de Paul Society with your

time, talents, or by donating clothing at one of the blue bins (at St Camillus, St. Joseph’s, and

St Vincent de Paul sites), dropping a donation in the poor box at St Vincent de Paul and St Ca-

millus sites, contributing to our upcoming annual “Friends of the Poor” fundraiser (more info to

follow in future bulletins), or through our primary source of funds – a parish envelope dona-

tion.

Getting rid of some clothing or shoes?

and Shoe Box at the St. Camillus , St. Joseph, and

STEPHEN MINISTRY BEREAVEMENT

As our new parish of Holy Spirit comes together and takes form, we will have many more opportunities to

get to know one another and serve each other and the broader community as Catholic Christians. One of the

means to that end is the forming of a Stephen Ministry at Holy Spirit Parish. One aspect of Stephen Minis-

tries is Journeying Through Grief booklets to help those who are grieving. We will now begin using them at

Holy Spirit Parish.

Each funeral has a family who is grieving the loss of the indi-

vidual. One person in the family will be chosen to receive the

booklets which they then can share with other family members.

The funeral director usually works with an individual who is

making all of the arrangements. This person will most likely be

the one to receive the booklets unless another is identified by

the family.
