A paradox? Yes! On the one hand he is a person of power, astonishing the crowds with his command of evil spirits and the authority of his teach- ing. On the other, as we find later, he is a fig- ure of weakness, failing to inspire faith in his followers and succumbing to a shameful death. Mark offers no easy resolution of this tension. He ends his gospel without the assur- ance of resurrection, daring readers to take the step of faith on their own. Those who do must risk seeing the crucified Christ as God’s Cho- sen One in whose footsteps we are to follow. Prayer Focus At times life can seem chaotic, out of control, even at the mercy of malign forces. Christ is the “light to enlighten all naons” and so candles are blessed during the introductory rites. 3 years after my Silver Anniversary and 2 years short of reaching 30 years in the priestly ministry. Wow! This is something to celebrate, albeit not a really big one, but something to be thankful to God for the many years of service in the vineyard of the Lord. Each day I wake up I always bow down before heaven and earth and clasp my hand in sheer gratefulness to God for the gift of the priesthood. I did not choose to be one but God chose me. And the good Lord has led me wher- ever He wanted me to go and to serve. Lo and behold, I almost traverse the four corners of the world in His service and gifts of being His priest. It’s great to be the PRIEST OF GOD! A happy way of living! Dear Fr Eduardo, May God bless you abundantly and may your ministry continue to be worthy of the Lord and pleasing to Him.
