Celebrating the End of the Season of Christmas
Baptized in Spirit and Fire THE ANNUNCIATION OF JOHN THE BAPTIST reminds us that from the moment of our baptism we are called and gifted for the work of “redemption”. This work—our Catholic Christian way of life—demonstrates that “God can be trusted” and that “no evil or imperfect person or situation is beyond the love of God in Jesus Christ”.
THROUGH BAPTISM we are to be active in the mission of God’s saving plan passed on to the Church by Jesus. God’s desire for human salvation was fulfilled in Jesus Christ, and the public ministry of the Church on behalf of the human needs of those around us fulfills God’s desire in the Spirit of Christ. For this reason our Parish Pastoral Council leaders are committed to —
• Strengthening the presence of the Catholic Church in the North County communities we are here to serve
• Keeping our parish vibrant in the practice of our faith
• Promoting human development as a fundamental work of evangelization
Lord, grant that
all the faithful of the Church looking into the signs of the times
by the light of faith may constantly devote themselves
to the service of the Gospel.
Eucharistic Prayer — Jesus, the Way to the Father Based on the 1965 Pastoral Constitution
On the Church in the Modern World, 2nd Vatican Council
As a “mission parish” we need to be aware of and responsive to the predominately Non-Catholic population living within our parish boundaries.
As a “parish with a mission” we need to be deliberate about finding ways to remain a viable organization in our community as our human and financial resources decline.
Who Can Be An Associate Member of Our Parish? Associates Members of Holy Name of Jesus Parish are individuals, not-for-profit organizations, and for-profit businesses who will —
Commit themselves to daily prayer for the life and welfare of our parish and the work of our parish in this community
Communicate with us their interest in sharing any personal experience, professional knowledge or training, or technical expertise which would benefit our community
Contribute financially to suppor t the presence and work of the Catholic Church as our parish reaches out to those in need around us
If you are interested in becoming an Associate Member of our par ish or know someone you’d like to invite to become an Associate Member, pick up a brochure at the entrance of church today. Or, you can talk with Father Mike about this at any time.
NEXT SUNDAY THE CHURCH OF ST. LOUIS will gather for Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis to pray for the preservation of peace and justice in our metropolitan community and our country. For the past 40 years our Church has come together on the 3rd Sunday of January for this celebration and to commemorate the birth and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Archbishop Robert Carlson will preside for the celebration and Father Arthur Cavitt, Pastor of St. Nicholas Par ish in the City of St. Louis will be the homilist. Immediately following Mass there will be a reception and awards presentation ceremony for the 2016 Martin Luther King Jr. Model of Justice honorees in Boland Hall. All in our parish are encouraged to attend and participate in the celebration.

Health Advisory
Your commitment to Mass is a sign of the vitality of our parish. However, for the health of our whole community, if you are not feeling well, be attentive to these recommendations:
Don’t Come To Church …
• With a fever—be fever free for 24 hrs. • When you’re not feeling well— achy, tired, sore throat, no energy • When you’re coughing and sneezing a
lot with a runny nose or headache
When You Do Come To Church …
• Use hand sanitizer at church entrances • With slight symptoms of cold or flu —
• Don’t take communion from the cup • Offer the sign of peace with a friendly
wave or simple bow
Thank you for your cooperation in taking responsibility for the health of our community. Remember , it’s sad to miss Mass when you’re sick or taking care of someone who’s sick, but not sinful.
USING SUPPLEMENTS, VITAMINS WISELY You probably take vitamins and supplements with the goal of improving your health. These products aren’t always good or safe for you. The makers of supplements don’t have to show their products are safe or effective before selling them on the market. WHEN BUYING ANY DIETARY SUPPLEMENT, HERE IS WHAT TO LOOK FOR: • HAS IT BEEN CERTIFIED BY AN ORGANIZATION THAT VERIFIES SUPPLEMTN SAFETY? • Check that the label contains the name of the
supplement; name, address and phone number of the manufacturer; a complete list of ingredients, including the active ingredient; and serving size.
WHEN IT COME TO TAKING SUPPLEMENTS, YOUR DOCTOR IS YOUR ADVOCATE. HERE ARE QUESTIONS TO ASK: • Are there studies to show that this supplement
works and that it’s safe? • What side effects might it have? • Will this supplement interact with any other
drugs or other supplements? • Will it cause excel bleeding, and if so, should I
stop taking it before surgery? • Can I take it if I have diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, or another medical condition? • What is the correct dosage for my age? As with any medication, if you experience any side effects from a supplement, call your doctor right away. Greetings from Belize: S. Rose, SSND.
