PENTECOST
The first PENTECOST feast took place 50 days after Passover. In the Old Testament, Pentecost cele-brated God’s gift of the 10 com-mandments to Moses. In the New Testament, the Pentecostal feast took on new meaning as the coming of the Holy Spirit to Jesus' disci-ples, as he had foretold them. This was the final fulfillment of Jesus' mission and the beginning of the disciples preaching about Jesus as the risen Christ, also known as the birthday of the Church.
Please remember those in the armed
services—keeping us safe.
We also pray for all who have died serving our country, that they may be welcomed into
paradise, where they will live forever with God.

Prayers & Reflections Prayers for Pentecost May 31, 2020
Unity is power. In the face of political, religious, racial, economic, gender and other differences, we are more aware than ever of the quest for unity. To-day’s readings portray Jesus’ followers gathered to-gether, seeking direction. In their unity, they are em-powered to love, to forgive, to proclaim and to re-new the face of the earth. The world needs what Je-sus bestowed upon them and upon us. We pray that the Spirit will help us to use this power for others and for our fractured world.
Prayer of the Faithful Let us pray now for a world in need of unity and love. For peace among all nations and peoples. Send out
your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth. For unity within our country and our government.
Send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.
For the courage to resist prejudice toward and fear of those who are different from us. Send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.
For those who are maligned or discredited because they are different. Send out your Spirit, and re-new the face of the earth.
For individuals, families and organizations that pro-mote unity and understanding. Send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.
For all those within this community who are seeking peace, healing or encouragement. Send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.
Prayer: God who makes all things new, we ask you to open our hearts to the power of the Holy Spirit. Make us instruments of love, peace and unity in our homes, our community and the world. Give us the courage to act, especially when we are doubtful or afraid. We pray as one people, united in the name of your son, Jesus. Amen.

HOLY FAMILY PARISH PENTECOST SUNDAY
PENTECOSTES
Recebei o Espírito Santo.
Domingo de Pentecostes: At 2, 1-11; Sl 103 (104); 1Cor 12, 3b-7.12-13; Jo 20, 19-23
