Dear Friends at Holy Family,
Thank you for letting me be a part of your community for the last 17 years. I have decided to retire from full-time teaching at Holy Family Catholic School. I will miss the daily mass-
goers, the families who have shared their children with me, and the staff at the Parish Office both past and present. Thank you, Holy Family Community for allow-ing me to share in the celebration of Mass and sacra-ments over the years. Peace, Mrs. J
This week we give thanks to Kelley Brandt for our altar flowers.
Thanks for sharing your gifts!
Welcome to our Holy Family!!

August 16th ♥ 20th Sunday in
Ordinary Time ♥ John 6:51-58 This Gospel reading from the Book of John
gives us Eucharist elements once again. The lan-
guage and images in this Gospel give us a deeper under-
standing of the Eucharist. They show a sacramental
richness and beauty. Jesus speaks of those who eat his
flesh and drink his blood. In this passage, Jesus states,
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven,” “I
will raise him on the last day,” and “I have life because
of the Father.”
What do the words “eat my flesh and drink my blood”
refer to? What does the statement “my flesh is true
food, and my blood is true drink” mean?
When we celebrate Eucharist, what do we become?
What are some of the ways we show that Jesus is part
of our lives?

project. If you are looking for a short-term way to get
more involved at the parish then this is a great project
for you. (Holy Family school parents can earn Fair
Share Hours!) You’ll coordinate volunteers and help
schedule families for their photo sessions. Contact

? Did you know that we have a week-ly gathering on Friday mornings to ex-plore the Bible, as well as other faith-related topics ? ? Would you be interested in joining

KLOTHES FOR KIDS I have been working with a support agency in our SE Portland and
have been made aware of an ever increasing need for school cloth-
ing for homeless children as well as those in challenging financial
circumstances. It is so difficult for these children to cope in the
first place, but to stand out because of how they dress is even more
of a blow to their self esteem. I would like to begin collecting gen-
tly worn clothing, including shoes, in the vestibule of church and
then at Holy Family school when classes resume and see how it
goes. I would ask that you think in terms of what your child would
wear to school and contribute accordingly. All ages from Kinder
through high school are needed. If you feel moved to do so and are
able, new clothes would be most welcome, of course. Thank you
so much.

“Come and See” - RCIA Invitation
Life is filled with invitations! Sometimes these can lead us to totally unexpected experi-ences. So …. we offer you an invitation that can lead you to a life of peace, faith and hope.
If you have never been baptized and find yourself attracted to the Catholic faith, we ex-tend to you an invitation to explore the possibilities of becoming a member of the Roman
Catholic Church.
If you have been baptized in another Christian faith tradition, we offer the invitation to join in full com-munion with the Catholic Church.
Or, perhaps you have been baptized in the Catholic faith but have never received the sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation. Your invitation is to complete your sacraments of initiation.
All of these invitations are to a new way of life, a way that draws one closer to God and to his people.
If you feel this invitation may be intended for you (or you know of another), ask us about how to go about responding to the invitation. Our Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process by which one can answer God’s invitation. Call Vicki Ford at 503-774-1428 x. 123 or email [email protected] for more information OR Cam Hanemann [email protected]
We are looking to purchase ad-ditional chairs for the sanctuary. There are many occasions when there are extra priests. Maybe the Archbishop? Maybe extra servers or additional dea-cons? At these times we basically choose from random available chairs, and aesthetically, we
would like to have matching chairs. We will be commissioning The Joinery who made the chairs we have now, in the hopes of having all chairs match. If you would like to contribute financially to the construction of these chairs, please share your desire with Fr. Rodel or Vicki Ford.
Blessings!
OUR 9TH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS IN JULY WHAT AN AWESOME SUCCESS!
Another testimony ….
Volunteering at the Blanchet House …. "It was wonderful. The boys all want to do it again.
They were all appointed individual jobs of serving. We were able to see how many people were waiting in line for a meal. It was such a long line and took a couple hours to reach the end of the line. It was such a great
experience for everyone. " The Ahmann Family
Please send your thoughts to [email protected]
We would like to share your experiences with all members of the parish!
Holy Family is in need of Catechists, those willing to share faith with children, teens and adults.
We invite you to consider the call to serve as a catechist. This might be just a 3-4 week session, or a specific topic, or an entire year. We have openings for everyone who would like to be part of this great and satisfying ministry.
We hope you call one of us to talk about the possibilities.
If someone you know is considering the call to serve as a catechist, pass our names/emails or phone # to them.

High School youth exchange programs have
been a part of U.S. public diploma-cy efforts since 1949. Approximate-
ly 25,000 high school students from around the world participate in this program each year. The good will of American host families in opening their homes to these young international visi-tors is vital to this program’s success.
The Rotary Club of Southeast Portland is host-ing a female exchange student from Turkey this year. Each family hosts for approximately three months. We are looking for families who might be interested in participating in this very rewarding experience. It is necessary to be in the Cleveland cachement area; a student must have their own room.
There is much more to learn about hosting; about seeing a foreign country through the eyes of someone who lives there as well as being able to show the world how American families live and play.
