REFLECT "God is always more." Have you ever heard that? If we truly believe that He is infinite, then this statement is worth exploring. Today, we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit in power upon the early Church. But Pentecost wasn't the first time the disciples received the Holy Spirit. The Gospel actually occurs chronologically before Pentecost. Soon after the Resurrection, Jesus already "came and stood in their [the disciples'] midst . . . he breathed on them and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit.'"

God is always more. Sometimes we might think the grace of God as one and done. God might break through in people's lives, but it's a one-time event on a retreat or preceding a dramatic conversion of life. But there's always more to come. Even today's Gospel isn't the first time the breath of God stirred. In Genesis, it's God's breath that stirs life into Adam in the garden. Jesus breathes on the Apostles, giving them the Holy Spirit in the quiet and silence. Later, that breath will stir into a "driving wind", and the Spirit will descend with flame...not unlike Moses on Mount Sinai.

God is always more. He has spoken throughout salvation history, and continues to speak into our lives through His Church and through the Holy Spirit alive in our hearts. This Pentecost Sunday, let us come before Him with expectant hearts! Like the disciples in the Gospel and first reading, let us await what "more" God will do.

Religious Education News

Registration forms for the 2019-2020 school year have been mailed home to all CCD students. Please return your registration form back to the CCD Office or use the drop box outside the CCD Office at Holy Family Church or St. Bernard Church. Please contact us if you have not received your registration form in the mail or to enroll a new student.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the Coordinator of Religious Education at St. Jeanne Jugan Parish. It will be a privilege and an honor to become involved in the Religious Education Program here at SJJ. After being a parishioner for over 30 years my involvement has been in many areas of Parish life. One of the most rewarding experiences has been with the students and parents of our CCD program. I look forward to working with everyone and helping us all move closer to the Lord each day.

Please free to call me at the CCD Office at Holy Family Church at 860-745-7770 or at the CCD Office at St. Bernard Church at 860-749-2993. You can also contact me by email at [email protected]

CATHOLIC UNDERGROUND HIKING EVENT Catholic Underground CT is a young adult event where Catholics from all around Connecticut gather together once a month to pray and experience Catholic culture and fellowship. It is all about growing in faith, building relationships, and growing the Catholic community.

Catholic young adult groups take place all over the state. It is our mission to bring them all together once a month to pray, meet like-minded people, be joined to a greater community, and have them leave inspired so as to go out and live their faith in the world around them.

Young adults are invited to join in for a Catholic Underground hiking event on Saturday, June 15th from 10 am to 1 pm. For more details contact Bryan Mercer at [email protected] or visit http://www.catholicundergroundct.com/event.

ANNUAL GRANDPARENTS AND SPECIAL PERSONS DAY

On Friday, May 10th, a few hundred guests joined their loved ones at St. Bernard School to enjoy a tour, lunch, and spring musical sneak peek. SUCCESSFUL ST. BERNARD SCHOOL GOLF OPEN!

The 13th annual St. Bernard School Golf Open was held on May 13, 2019 at Twin Hills Country Club. Despite the less than perfect weather, the 114 golfers who participated in the event were in good spirits and enjoyed the day. A total of $19,293 was raised for St. Bernard School from the event this year. We offer our sincerest thanks to all of the generous sponsors, prize donors, golfers, volunteers, committee members and school/parish staff who helped make this event so wonderful. To view photos and drone footage from the event as well as sponsor/donor information, visit the St. Bernard School Golf Open Facebook page.

Thank you for another successful golf open this year! Save the date for next year: Monday, May 11, 2020.

THANK YOU FR. GOLAS FOR ALL YOU DO

During the month of May, the students at St. Bernard School take a moment to thank their pastor, Fr. John Golas, for his continued support, dedication, and loyalty to the school and the entire St. Jeanne Jugan Parish. The students presented him with a handmade art piece to depict this year’s school theme- God Lights Our Way with each student represented as a firefly.

My thanks to all for making the Carnival a success. It will be about a month before I can provide our parishioners of the total profit the Parish made.
