A.P.R.E.’s Report This weekend is special for a number of our students who will celebrate the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation in the Holy Cross Parish Church. The occasion is an important milestone on their faith journey, as they take on the responsibilities of this time in their lives. Obviously it is one of many along the way for them, but it is at a stage where it is recognized that they are ready to take further charge of their own faith development. We teach that the Sacraments are signs of God at work in the world and so, the sacramentality of life has far more reaching effects than just the seven sacraments that are recognized by the Church. The Seven Sacraments are certainly significant in terms of their relativity to the important events that make up our lives: Baptism to welcome us into God’s family, Confirmation to enter deeper into the relationship with God, Eucharist to nourish along the way, Reconciliation to heal relationship break-downs, Marriage to sanctify the love between two people in God, Ordination to anoint those to guide us along the way and the Anointing of the Sick to give us strength for the journey home. Let us then keep these young people in our prayers, especially this weekend, asking that their faith in God is deepened and that they take on the responsibilities of living well the message of Jesus. On Friday 14 is the Feast of the Holy Cross and there will be a School Mass at 9.15am in Holy Cross Church to which everyone is most cordially invited. All students will attend this Mass. God is with us. Patty McCourt

September 21, the final day of the term, will be a Free Dress Day to assist the work of Montrose Access, a community based support service to people of all ages with disabilities, so that they can lead an independent life within the community. Would you please assist this worthy cause by sending along a gold coin with your child.

Pastoral Care Corner

Dear Parents

Abraham Heschel, a renowned Jewish rabbi and

Holocaust survivor, has said, “We teach children

how to measure, how to read. We fail to teach

them how to revere, how to sense wonder and awe.

The sense of the sublime, the sign of the inward

greatness of the human soul and

something potentially given to all, is

now a rare gift.” Parents, more than

teachers, have the opportunity to

teach this. How often have you

called your children to watch a

sunset, to admire a flower (even a

weed!), look at the night sky. Such

moments of wonder lead to an

attitude of reverence and

amazement. That attitude towards creation easily

translates into reverence and amazement for all the

people we meet. Each person has his/her own

sparkle. Do we help our children to recognise that

sparkle in the other, even the most unlovable other,

to show reverence and dignity to all? Remember,

we are all ‘With God for others’.

This is also the theme for National Child Protection

Week. I’m sure you can find your ‘tag’ on this

map. We must each play our part in keeping our

children safe and building their strengths, including

their reverence for themselves and others. God bless Sr Anne.

THANK YOU to all who collected Woolworths stickers and Coles vouchers. Holy Rosary sent in stickers this week – there were 27,512 (they won’t let us count the last 2!!!), so I will let you know what great prizes we get. We are still collecting Paul’s bottle tops DARLING POINT FUN RUN Shaun Gray, Zac Eyndhoven, Beau Cossar, Willow Preston, Andy Melville, Sean Noone, Zac Hamblin and Sam Intelesano represented us at this event and came home the proud winners of the Best Effort Shield. We also received a totem tennis set from Bunnings for our efforts. Shaun Gray, captain of the team, will have his name as well as the school's name, engraved on this shield. Willow also received a best and fairest award for her division. Thanks to Derek Hamblin and to Deb & Mark Stonehouse for their support on the day. MINI VINNIES SLEEPOVER We have just received the Mini Vinnies Newsletter which reported on the Sleepover. We were one of only nine primary schools in the whole of Queensland, who participated - great effort for our Mini Vinnies.
