16 of our young people achieved 5 Highers all at Grade A; while three of our young people achieved 6 Highers; two of them achieving 6 Highers at Grade A Band 1….a magnificent achievement.

Our young people in Sixth Year also performed superbly well – with our Advanced Higher grades increasing by an astonishing 10% to 20%!

Indeed, all of our young people taking examinations in 2015 worked extremely hard and performed to the very best of their ability and we are so proud of them all.

Our results highlight the excellent partnership which exists between our young people, our parents and our staff.

Working together we can achieve so much for our young people.

We look forward to another successful school year in 2015/2016 at Holy Cross High School.

David Hayburn of S5 who gained 6 Highers all at A Band 1

Twins Rachel and Hannah Duddy each gained 5 Highers

On Thursday 10th September, we celebrated our Patronal Feast Day Mass in the school. The Bishop of Motherwell, Bishop Toal led us in celebration along with some of our partner Parish Priests: Fr Towie, St John the Baptist; Fr Doyle St Bride’s, Fr O’Farrell Our Lady & St Anne’s and our very own School Chaplain Fr Patrick Duffy. Our young people from S6 and S1 represented all of the young people in Holy Cross High School and did a fantastic job in doing so. We were also delighted to welcome many guests to the occasion including our Partner Primary Head Teachers, former members of staff and members of our Parent Council. Following a beautiful Mass, all guests were invited to a buffet lunch, not before Bishop Toal was presented with a special gift to mark the occasion by one of our School Captains.

On Wednesday 26th August in Holy Cross High School we welcomed the P7 children of our Partner Primary Schools and their parents/carers to the school for a special Mass to celebrate the beginning of their transition from primary to secondary school.

All of the Primary Head Teachers as well as other members of staff attended giving their pupils excellent support.

Mrs Fagan, who planned and organised the evening, worked with many members of staff in Holy Cross to ensure the night was an outstanding success. Sixth year prefects were also in attendance and provided tours of the school for parents.

The attendance was absolutely overwhelming; around 400 children, parents, family, friends, staff and young people were there on the night to give our P7 children who will be our new S1 in 2016 – their full support.

Finally, many thanks to Fr Paddy, our School Chaplain for leading our celebration and providing such a great welcome for us all.

Last week, following an intense period of presentations, speeches and interviews, our Senior Student Leadership Team were elected to their positions of responsibility for 2015/2016. The quality and the calibre of our candidates was quite simply superb – making the decision to elect very difficult indeed. Indeed all members of the Senior School Staff along with the Pupil Support Team were involved in the process – and final decisions had to be delayed as deliberations continued for an additional day. Finally, though, the results were made known to our Sixth Year students and then published widely for all to see and celebrate. OUR LEADERSHIP POSITIONS FOR 2015/2016 ARE AS FOLLOWS: SCHOOL CAPTAINS : Laura Maguire : David Hayburn VICE CAPTAINS : Rachel Duddy : Jonathan Carey SENIOR SCHOOL PREFECT : Stephen Farrell PREFECTS : Bethany McKane, Kirsty McShane, Aiden Gallacher, Emily Henaughen, Paul Linden Simon Linden, Elisa Braceland, Beth Cribbin, Brogan Lavery, Sean Watters, Rory Hope, Douglas McGarrity, Claire Burnside, Dominic McRoberts, Kuda Matimba CLASS CAPTAINS : 6A : Natalia Nisbet, Sean McKenna 6B : Sarah Agnew, Michael Creechan 6C : Ben Dickson, Hannah Viola 6D : Anya Barsauckas, Jordan Love 6E : Rachel Cunningham, Maura McMahon 6F : Hannah Duddy, Conall McCormick YEAR BOOK CONVENER : Stephen Farrell SOCIAL CONVENER : Dominic McRoberts, Kirsty McShane SPORTS CAPTAINS : Adele Baillie, Jordan McLean SPORTS VICE CAPTAINS : Robert Gallagher, Ciaran Jenkins Chloe Lewis, Liam O’Neill
