Good People of Holy Cross, I love the Psalmist’s words: “The Lord speaks of peace to his people.” Beautiful, lyrical words that convey a message we need very badly today. Protests encouraging social equality are happening all over the country and our world, and the protestors call to each of us: What are we to do? I don’t have an easy answer to that question but I do think that God invites us to be people of peace. Should I pray for an end racism? Yes! Should I seek ways to further the cause of peace in my community, my nation, and in other nations whenever I see an opportunity to do so? Yes! Should I seek to heal broken relationships in my own life and always seek kindness rather than condemnation? Yes! What brings all of this together is the belief, that as we cultivate peace in our everyday lives and relationships, we will become people of peace, people of justice. In meditating on “The Lord speaks of peace to his people,” and what Jesus might be telling us, Jesus certainly came for the poor and rejected of the world, immigrants, homeless refugees, and oppressed people. I believe that Jesus came to teach the privileged that we must be in solidarity with the world’s marginalized. On Independence Day, we must take to heart the admonition in the hymn “America the Beautiful” to “crown thy good with brother (sister) hood” and join Jesus in embracing those who are suffering from oppression with our offering of a crown of peace and good, no matter the color of one’s skin. May our Lord speak to your heart of peace! Have a great week. Fr. Jude Michael

del salmista: "El Señor habla de paz a su pueblo". Hermosas palabras líricas que transmiten un mensaje que necesitamos mucho hoy. Las protestas que alientan la igualdad social están sucediendo en todo el país y nuestro mundo, y los manifestantes nos llaman a cada uno de nosotros: ¿Qué debemos hacer? No tengo una respuesta fácil a esa pregunta, pero sí creo que Dios nos invita a ser personas de paz. ¿Debo rezar por el fin del racismo? ¡SÍ! ¿Debería buscar formas de promover la causa de la paz en mi comunidad, mi nación y en otras naciones cada vez que veo una oportunidad para hacerlo? ¡SÍ! ¿Debería tratar de sanar las relaciones rotas en mi propia vida y siempre buscar amabilidad en lugar de condena? ¡SÍ! Lo que une todo esto es la creencia de que a medida que cultivemos la paz en nuestras vidas y relaciones cotidianas, nos convertiremos en personas de paz, personas de justicia. PARISH NEWS Part-time youth minister Holy Cross Catholic Church in Atlanta, is seeking a part-time youth minister for middle school and high school youth. Responsibilities include coordinating weekly catechetical sessions, assisting volunteer catechists and providing ongoing communications with parents. The youth minister must be a self-starter, a strong communicator and have good organizational skills. They must be a practicing Roman Catholic, with knowledge of Catholic Liturgy and sacramental requirements. Also this person must have experience facilitating Virtual Teleconferencing classes, Thursday and Sunday evenings.
