Message from Pastor Carol

What are you going to do to cooperate with God's plan for Holy Covenant?

We had a wonderful event on August 16th as we

gathered for our "BIG" event and potluck. Our

BIG: Be, Ignite, Go campaign was about more

than just coming together as a church. It was

also about helping us prepare ourselves for all

of the wonderfully exciting things that are

happening at Holy Covenant.

If you have not noticed lately, our church is full of little ones

running around. We are blessed to have almost 30 children on

our roles for the nursery. We have two elementary aged Sunday

School classes, a Confirmation class and a youth aged Sunday

School class. All of these classes are beginning to fill up with

children and youth. Our dream two years ago was that we

would be a church with families and young children. God has

answered our prayers! With this answer, comes cooperation.

We, church members, must be willing to come forward to staff

these classrooms but even more love these kids!

I have devoted myself to youth by stepping in to serve as the

interim youth director and I will be participating in "The Time

for Children and Families" program with our children's ministry

team. Our church's priority has become the children and youth

that God has entrusted to us!

I truly believe that if all of us come forward to offer our time

and gifts to these two ministry areas of the church we will have

flexibility of schedules and creativity of multiple talents coming

together to education, encourage and love our children.

Some of the roles we need to people to serve in:

- Sunday School Teachers for all ages (you do not have to be a

teacher just a willing servant)

- A person(s) that can help plan games and activities with youth

for 30 minutes during UMYF

- A person(s) that plays the acoustic guitar to help me lead

worship at the close of UMYF

- Children's Choir Servants

Every year we beg for adults to assist the children. Well, not

this year. I truly believe that God has the people in mind that

are to help with these roles in these children's lives or God

would not have brought them to us. I need every church

member to pray about what you are called to do. Guess what?

None of us get to act like it is not us! God has called you to this

place and this means, God thinks you've got what it takes to

change a child's life.

What are you going to do to cooperate with God's plan for Holy

Covenant?

CROP Hunger Walk

Saturday, September 19

Local churches/organizations

will participate in the annual

Metrocrest CROP Hunger Walk

on Saturday, September 19,

2015. Walkers raise

awareness of hunger in our

community and around the world, and raise funds to fight

hunger. The Walk will kick off at Mill Valley Fellowship, 13545

Webb Chapel Rd, Farmers Branch. Check-in at 8:00 a.m. The

Firewheel Gospel Music Band is returning to provide

entertainment as walkers return. Water and other support for

comfort and safety will be provided along the 2-mile route.

There is also a 1-mile short cut.

Everyone can participate by either walking or making a donation

to one of Holy Covenant's walkers who will be asking for

sponsors. 25% of the funds raised are dedicated to the Food

Pantry at Metrocrest Social Services; the remaining funds are

used by Church World Service in their global hunger and

poverty fighting programs in 30+ countries.

We invite you to come out, enjoy the morning, and be a part of

the fight against hunger in our community and the world.

Please contact Rick Davis at 972-814-5325 if you need more

information. Holy Covenant Team web page for making an

Annual Dinner and Auction

Saturday, October 24

Holy Covenant's annual

dinner and auction is

scheduled for Saturday,

October 24. All proceeds

from the event go to our

church's support of the local

and global ministries of the

United Methodist Church.

Here are the basics for the event:

-Our theme this year is "Monster Mash!". Plan to come in

costume and maybe win a prize! More details to follow.

-Dinner is being catered by Old House BBQ. You may arrive any

time between 5:45 and 6:30- come early and then go to the

silent auction or vice versa! Dinner cost is $10 for adults and $5

for children. **NEW THIS YEAR** - First timers eat free! If this

will be your first time to the event, come as our guest with no

charge to you or your family- just note this when you RSVP.

Please note that you must RSVP if you plan to attend dinner.

-The silent auction opens at 5:30 and closes at 7 when we start

the live auction. We will re-open the silent auction for a few

minutes after the close of the live auction to allow all a chance

to update their bids.

-There will be a raffle for a tablet (no--not stone but a

computer!) in conjunction with the event. Raffle tickets will be

available for purchase after each service beginning in early

September. Pick up a stack to sell as well!

Here's how you can help:

-Donate items: All of the items auctioned are made or obtained

by members of Holy Covenant - no used items please!

-Buy and sell raffle tickets: Please help us sell raffle tickets!

Please pick up tickets in September before and after each

service to sell to friends, family, neighbors and co-workers.

-Invite friends to the event: A great dinner at a reasonable

price, a fun auction, good stuff to buy, and a great cause- what

more could you ask for? The more people at the auction, the

more fun and the more we raise. Please invite others to join the

fun!

To get even more information about the dinner and auction,

keep an eye on the church website- there will be a piece

entitled "Auction for Dummies" that is a primer for those of you

who haven't been to the event. You will also be able to RSVP to

dinner and complete donated item forms there.

You can also like us on Facebook (Holy Covenant United

Methodist Church) and follow us on Twitter (@hcumc) - we will

be updating both with auction ideas as well as donated items as

they are received.
