DEAR HOLY FAMILY PARISHIONERS: Isn’t LIFE great? I mean the fact that we are living & breathing as we read this. Too often all of us take it for granted. Too many times we don’t even pause & listen to the breath of life inside us. Too often we fail to say “thank you, Lord” for gifting us with LIFE. October is RESPECT LIFE MONTH in our Catholic Church. This is a time to call to mind how we as Catholics promote & respect life. Our life is a wonderful example of the love of God. God did not have to give us life, but He did. Our responsibility is to show Him in return that we respect ALL LIFE & care for it to the best of our ability. Are we people who respect life in ALL FORMS at ALL TIMES? We are challenged to have a CONSISTENT & ALL-ENCOMPASSING stance of being PRO-LIFE. PERIOD. We are to respect life in the womb at ALL times; to NOT be mercy killers & end life; to be respectful of life EVEN on death row; to be AGAINST embryonic stem cell research; to be an ADVOCATE for the poor; to seek PEACEFUL solutions, not war; & to RESPECT the environment. And I think we can agree that abortion is one of the most blatant EVILS in our age. When we pray, this issue SHOULD be FIRST & FOREMOST in our minds & on our hearts. May we use each day of October to call ourselves to be life-givers to all people & in all situations. May we pray for those condemned to die. May we pray for those who advocate euthanasia. May we pray for those who are starving, victims of racism & intolerance, the homeless & poor, the unemployed, & victims of war. May we pray for those contemplating abortions & those who live with the guilt & emptiness from having abortions. May world leaders who promote slavery & human trafficking be on our list of prayer intentions. May we pray for those who destroy embryos for research & for the em-bryos destroyed. May we pray for those who murder & torture in the name of religion. May we pray for those who destroy God’s Creation in any way. Let us pray—-LORD OF ALL LIFE, HELP US TO BE THANKFUL FOR THE GIFT OF LIFE ITSELF. HELP US TO APPRECIATE EACH BREATH & DAY GIVEN TO US. EXPAND OUR HEARTS, MINDS, & SOULS SO THAT IN EACH SITUATION & WITH EVERY PERSON WE MAY PROMOTE LIFE & RESPECT THAT LIFE IN A DEEPER WAY. Amen.

PLEASE PRAY for our 3rd graders as they prepare for 1st Communion & Confir-mation, & for our 8th graders seeking Confirmation. Bishop Paprocki will be here on Oct. 27th for these sacraments. YOUR PASTOR, FATHER JOE

P.S. Please pray for the repose of the soul of Lori Samples, mother of Zach Samples, who is a seminarian for our diocese from OLHS in Mt. Zion. May she be in the eter-nal peace of heaven, & may Zach, his father & sister, & all the family be comforted at this time.

EVER THOUGHT OF BEING A PRIEST? God may be calling you right now to serve Him by being a priest for the Diocese of Springfield. If you may be interested, call Fr. Joe at 423-6223. He’d be happy to guide you in your discernment. Let us continue to pray for more priestly voca-tions, especially from Holy Family Parish!!!.

BRAVO to all of us as we celebrate our 60th An-niversary as a parish this weekend! For 6 dec-ades we have been providing faith, education, outreach & prayer. May our Lord & the Holy Family continue to inspire us, mold us, challenge us, & love us as a faith community. THANKS to our Pastoral Council for their work for this cele-bration weekend, to CHRIS BRIGHT for the food & to those who decorated, served, attended & brought des-serts. Also, thanks to those who helped with the prayer cards & marketing of this important cele-bration. We’re grateful to all pa-rishioners of HF, especially our Charter Members. Long live Holy Family Parish!!!!

DON’T FORGET to invite someone you know back to Mass! You can be a great ambassador for our parish. Let us fill the pews of Holy Family!!

Lord of Creation & Salvation, we need you now more than ever. We, the Church, are hurting. Increase our faith in Your presence in the Church at this time. Heal our hearts; encourage us in our faith; deepen our commitment to You; enliven us with a renewed love for all that is good & holy. Never let any of us de-part from You or the Catholic Church, our true home. AMEN.

PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR SISTER PARISH.

ALMIGHTY GOD, GIVER OF ALL LIFE, WE BEG YOU TO CHANGE THE HEARTS AND

MINDS OF MANY OF OUR STATE AND NATIONAL LEADERS WHO PROMOTE THE SIN AND EVIL OF ABORTION. PLEASE MOVE THEM TO SEE THE ERROR OF THEIR STANCE, AND TO REALIZE HOW THEY ARE ALLOWING THE SLAUGHTER OF THE INNOCENTS. HELP US, AS CATHO-LIC CHRISTIANS, TO PROMOTE LIFE IN THE WOMB AND OUTSIDE THE WOMB. MAY ALL OF US WHO BREATHE AND LIVE IN THE PRESENCE OF OUR LORD ALLOW OTHERS TO DO THE SAME, NO MATTER THE CIRCUMSTANCES. YOU CREATED ALL LIFE. YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE TO TAKE LIFE. PERIOD. AMEN.

ANNUAL CATHOLIC SERVICES APPEAL

We are the parish family of Holy Family. And our parish is part of the larger family of the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois. And our Diocese is part of the larger universal Catholic Church. Our Annual Catholic Services Appeal (ACSA) is an example of the local Church helping the Diocesan Church. We are part of something larger than ourselves, so we are called to help our Diocese, too. And by helping our Diocesan Church, we are enabling our local Church of Holy Family, whose 60th anniver-sary we celebrate this weekend in a special way, to meet our assessed (must be paid) goal of $76,362. Please make your generous contribution to this Appeal today! There are envelopes on the counter in the church vestibule if you need one. THANK YOU!!!

ANNUAL LIFE CHAIN, Sun., Oct. 6th, from 2:30 to 3:30 P.M. You may pick up Pro-Life signs at 2:00 in St. Patrick Church basement. All pro-life people are being asked to take a place along Franklin St. or Eldorado St., to stand for 1 hour with signs that show your position against abortion and supporting women and children. For more info., call 864-5422.
