Stewardship Reflection 6th Sunday in Ordinary Time - February 12, 2017

“For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of

the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the

kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:20

The scribes and Pharisees lived according to the letter of

the law and elevated themselves above others. Jesus is

clear – it’s the love that you have that will get you to

heaven. Simply following church rules out of obligation

does not put you on the path to heaven.

FINDING GOD IN THE DARK Film Series facilitated by Sister Johanna Jonker

Date: This Wednesday, February 15th at 1 p.m.

Film: The Drop Box The Drop Box is an award-winning documentary that

portrays vividly the call to compassionate action on

behalf of orphans. It’s a heartbreaking and heartwarming

story of loss, love and life!

Feedback re this film series from Jo Henry:

“Are you feeling the doldrums of mid-winter blues? I

started to attend the movie group last year and found a

comfortable and stimulating way to fill these somewhat

boring days of late winter. Finding God in the Dark is a

way of discovering God working in seemingly strange

circumstances. The films force one to think of the

meaning of life and that God’s ways are not always our

ways. The discussion following the movie is led by a

lovely person of compassion and insight, Sister Johanna. I

love her and the way in which we share and gain spiritual

insight. All are welcome, so do come and join us.

SAINTS F.A.I.T.H. ( Food Aid Initiative To Help Project)

Thank you for your participation in making this year's

Development & Peace/ Canada Food Grains Bank garden

project a great success. The partnership of St. Benedict's

Monastery with the parishes of Holy Redeemer, St.

Anthony's and St. Theresa's is alive and well.

We made $9100 from produce sales and donations. With

4x matching CIDA funding that works out to $45,500 for

third world food aid. In addition, we delivered 4400 lbs of

produce to Winnipeg Harvest and local soup kitchens.

Our Development & Peace 2016 contribution at Canada

Foodgrains Bank is being used for food aid to drought

ravaged Ethiopia. We just finished a $670,000 program

supplying corn, bean, lentils, protein mix, and vegetable

oil distributed through the Diocese of Ethiopia.

The garden area has been ploughed and is ready to plant

in spring 2017.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. (Steve Gadient)
