Children’s Church Hiatus
Please note that in order to allow our dedicated volun-teers quality time with their families, (not to mention a well deserved break!) we will not have Children’s Church during the month of July. Children’s Church will resume the first Sunday of August.
A WORD FROM THE INTERIM PASTOR…
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL – Thanks to all the leaders and oth-
er volunteers who have been working with our boys and girls this
week in Vacation Bible School. This has been a wonderful tradition
in Baptist churches through the years and a great way to help build
a strong spiritual foundation in our children.
THE SERMON ON THE AMOUNT – You have heard of Jesus
teaching the Sermon on the Mount but this Sunday we will focus on
the Sermon on the Amount. We will review the challenge Paul is-
sued to the Corinthian Church to support the free will offering he
established for the suffering Christians in Jerusalem. He encour-
aged them to become faithful stewards of their financial resources.
The text will come from II Corinthians chapters 8 and 9.
PASTOR SEARCH COMMITTEE – Your Pastor Search Commit-
tee continues to meet on a regular basis and evaluate several poten-
tial candidates for the Senior Pastor position at Smithwood Baptist
Church. Continue to remember these members you elected for this
important task. Committee members are Harry Cooper (Chair),
Terry Bennett, Jack Holt, Nell Alfaro and Lisa Moore. Alternate
members are Jay Jordan and Cheryl Rogers.
TIME FLIES – It seems like just yesterday that I met with your In-
terim Pastor Committee to determine if I would become to one to
serve as pastor during the transition. It is hard to believe that I am
closing in on my seventh month with you in this role. You have
been most gracious and supportive and have made me feel like a
member of the Smithwood family. Like Paul said to the church at
Philippi , “You make my joy complete”.
Dr. Larry W. Fields, Interim Pastor

Christmas in July Children’s Packing Party
A big thank you to those who attended the Operation Christmas Child “Christmas in July” Packing Party. Although a small group, 126 shoeboxes were filled. Even little fellas helped!
Please join with us as we start praying now for shipping charges to come in for our Smithwood OCC boxes. You may take a card from our board at any time and pray for the children on that card . Please make your tax deductible check out to : Smithwood Baptist Church and in the memo line please state for: OCC shipping We will be collecting shipping money from now until November 5th, so that the pre-paid barcoded “follow your box” labels may be made before our church packing party on Nov. 10th.
Dear Smithwood,
Thank you for your love, prayers and support during this time of grieving Earl’s passing. The sandwiches, vegetables, sweets, tea and paper goods after his graveside service were greatly appreciated. Your thoughtfulness and generosity were a great comfort to our family.
Sincerely,
The Hudsons Bernice, Charles, Nancy, Jane, Helen and John
P.S. Earl certainly loved his church!!
Enjoy Mighty Wurlitzer organ performances by Dr. Bill Snyder and Freddie Brabson and special guest, K-Town Sound. K-Town Sound is a chorus of women affiliated with Sweet Adelines who sing in the barbershop style. The church van leaves Smithwood at 11:00 a.m. Sign up on the Keenager bulletin board.
